SYDNEYSIDERS enjoyed their first taste of summer today with temperatures exceeding 32 degrees.
Many flocked to the city’s beaches and parks to enjoy the perfect conditions, which are set to be repeated tomorrow before temperatures drop dramatically on Wednesday.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Neale Fraser said the temperature had hit 32.7 at Observatory Hill and this was close to the monthly record of 34.6 set on September 26, 1965.
The bureau had been forecasting a maximum temperature of 28 degrees but Mr Fraser said that sea breezes had not lowered the mercury as much as expected.
The conditions were well above average temperature for September of 20.0 degrees.
“It won’t be a record but it’s up there as one of the warmest September days on record and to have two days over 33 degrees is quite unusual,” Mr Fraser said.
The beautiful weather combined with school holidays saw crowds flock to the beach.

The bureau expects temperatures to reach 33 degrees tomorrow as well, with the warm conditions due to north westerly winds bringing heat to the coast from inland areas.
However, a cold front is expected to roll through on Wednesday, causing temperatures to plummet especially in Victoria, and may even see the Snowy Mountains get a dusting of snow. Melbournites will expect a maximum temperature of 17 degrees while those in Sydney will likely enjoy a maximum of 21 degrees.
