APPLE’S biggest launch of the year might be its least surprising after many of the famously secretive company’s creations appear to have leaked ahead of this week’s event.

The technology giant is scheduled to unveil three improved and redesigned smartphones at its new Apple Park campus on Wednesday, in a move analysts predicted would send Australian phone sales soaring.

But a new leak appears to confirm the shape of one of the new handsets, while a final copy of Apple’s new smartphone software revealed the top model’s name, a new security addition, and two previously unknown new features.

Cases from accessories brand Pelican, obtained by News Corp, indicate one of the phones will feature a slightly wider, noticeably longer body than the iPhone 7, and confirmed the iPhone’s two cameras would now be positioned vertically.

The company is believed to have created the cases after talks with in-the-know US carriers.

A leak of the “gold master” version of Apple’s iOS 11 software also appeared to confirm that a redesigned, premium smartphone would be called iPhone X, and the handset would feature a new 3D face-scanner called Face ID to replace Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

The software also hid a demonstration of how to set up the face-unlocking feature, which included moving your face in a circle in front of the new iPhone’s front camera.

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Note 8 also feature facial scanning security, though the company admitted it could easily be fooled and was not secure enough to unlock financial transactions.

Apple’s pre-launch software leak also revealed Animoji, or animated emojis that could mimic the sender’s expressions, and Portrait Lighting mode to customise the look of images.

The iPhone X is also widely rumoured to feature an edge-to-edge OLED screen, wireless charging, a new look, and a higher price.

Apple is expected to launch two more phones called iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, and an updated version of the Apple Watch with its own mobile internet connection.

Even if the leaks prove correct and take some of the surprise out of Apple’s announcement, they’re unlikely to hurt the technology giant.

Research firm Telsyte revealed 93 per cent of Australian iPhone users intended to buy another iPhone, compared to just 74 per cent of Samsung smartphone owners.

Telsyte managing director Foad Fadaghi said Apple’s “super-cycle” phone redesign and pent-up demand for the new handset could also drives sales, and Apple was expected to claim the title of “market leader” for the rest of the year.

He said Australian consumers should expect “aggressive” discount phone deals from all telcos this month as they fought to win more customers.

“Everyone is fighting hard for that iPhone customer,” he said. “It’s already started.”

Apple will hold its iPhone launch event at 3am Wednesday AEST.
