A pro-Palestine TikTok influencer who goes by the name ‘Hijabi Barbi’ has gone viral for an unusual protest against “settlers” in the hipster Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy.
The activist, who has more than 25,000 followers on the Chinese video-sharing app, shared a brief clip apparently of herself ringing doorbells at random on a side street in the up-market inner-city suburb.
“POV [point of view]: no settler will leave in peace,” the video text read, with a vomiting emoji.
“Fitzroy rich nepo babies be careful,” she captioned the clip, originally posted in September.
The bizarre protest left many viewers confused.
“What does this achieve,” one TikTok user wrote.
“Gtfo out of my country,” another wrote.
“Wait I’m confused. Why did you do this and did you know exactly who lived there?” another asked.
“How brave,” one joked.
“You did absolutely nothing, hope you feel good after doing that,” another said.
Hijabi Barbi replied, “Hehe it’s made u cookers mad.”
Another TikTok user said, “Wow you are really changing the world and making it a better place, good job.”
The creator hit back, “Everytime a white is mad it adds an extra year to the average life span.”
The clip was also shared on X, where users were similarly scathing.
One said: “Ah yes, harassing random people in their homes. You will sleep soundly tonight knowing you are truly changing the world, one doorbell at a time.
Another wrote: “Sure this is relatively nothing but a society that willingly intakes people who openly say ‘they will never live in peace’ to locals and threaten them without consequences won’t survive.”
The activist, who has described herself in previous videos as being of Iraqi heritage, has regularly appeared at pro-Palestine protests in Melbourne since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war triggered by the October 7 terror attacks last year.
Promoting a fundraiser for “families in Gaza” last month she told viewers, “I’ve got 27,000 followers and if each of you gave $1 I’ll reach my goal. And if I reach my goal I will literally throw s**t at King Charles.”
She also speaks up on the side of Indigenous activists.
In January she shared a video celebrating after vandals cut down a statue of Captain Cook in Melbourne writing, “Ngl I’ve been laughing for hours.”
