An image posted to social media by an Australian senator has been slammed as an “AI nightmare”, with many calling for the staff involved to be sacked.
One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts on Monday expressed his hope to fight for the “great Australian dream” in a post shared to X.
“Every Aussie family deserves their own piece of paradise, not to be crammed into tiny shoe-box apartments,” the post read.
“Let’s bring back affordable housing and save our backyards. Time to put Australian families first!”
The call to action was accompanied by a photo of a family sitting round a backyard.
However upon closer inspection there appeared to be several issues with the image, including a child’s leg cut off, extremely long limbs, arms cut off, and even an extra arm in the right corner, which did not appear to be attached to any person.

The detailing of certain features, including one of the children’s feet, also appeared to be a little off, and given an almost airbrush effect.
Many were quick to slam the election material, questioning whether Mr Roberts used artificial intelligence to come up with the image.
NewsWire understands the image was created with AI.
“Look at this AI art closely for a second mate, this is terrible. Whichever staffer you had do this should be fired for greenlighting this picture,” one commented.
“That’s not the Australian dream it’s an AI generated nightmare,” another added.
“It’s a shame that Albanese government policies destroying household finances mean we have to resort to AI to find a stock image of a happy family in a house big enough for a backyard,” Mr Roberts said in a statement.
“One Nation’s 2025 policy platform to put $40bn back in the pockets of Australians will mean many more photos of happy families in the future.”
There is currently no restriction on using AI for election material, with the Australian Electoral Commission website stating it was “reasonable to expect that there could be AI used in election communication”.
However the website also stated so long as it was used in a way that didn’t spark concern or could mislead voters about the voting process or candidates involved in the election.
