Grand Theft Auto update allows for first person sex

THE Grand Theft Auto franchise from gaming company Rockstar is no stranger to controversy and the game’s latest update has continued its reputation to shock.

A GRAND Theft Auto update for the newest Sony and Microsoft consoles includes an unprecedented first person view that allows gamers to experience sex with a prostitute.

The GTA 5 update offers a smorgasbord of activities which gamers can see experience through the perspective of the character they are playing.

The characters in the game are tasked with carrying out robbery, carjackings, torture and murder — but interactions with strippers and ability to have first person sex with prostitutes has caused outrage.

You work your way up from street thug to the baddest crime lord in the city.

In a post on website dudecomedy.com, one woman wrote, “I can’t believe parents are buyin this kinda game for their children!! Shame on the ppl that even thought this s*** was worth putting in a game!!”.

While another user on Youtube wrote, “this is just wrong! I have a five-year-old, this is not what I want him to see, not cool”.

Despite having an 18+ rating, Rockstar has consistently had to defend against this type of backlash.

In a previous interview with the BBC, one of the writers and producers of the game, Lazlow Jones, said that: “if you’re a parent and buy one of our games for your child you’re a terrible parent. We design games for adults because we’re adults.”

The ability to enlist the services of a sex worker first appeared in GTA 3 where players could pull their car up next to a prostitute and then moments later watch as the car rocked back and forth.

The game’s makers have certainly kicked it up a notch and while some may be shocked, others see it for what it is: a game. They don’t see a problem with the explicit nature of GTA 5.

A recent controversy dubbed gamer-gate has drawn attention the perceived misogynistic nature of the gaming culture and scenes like this from GTA 5 will only add fuel to the fire.

But with many anticipating virtual reality as the future of gaming, this sort of thing is sure to be just the very beginning.
