WINTER isn’t loosening its icy grip along the East Coast, reaching it’s below-zero temperature tentacles into Queensland. And there’s more where that came from — with another cold front due at the end of the week.

The NSW northern tablelands woke to a winter wonderland again this morning — for those hardy enough to brave the subzero temperatures.

Guyra had a snowfall of about 4cm, and at 7am the mercury still hadn’t made it above zero, with early risers greeted by temperatures of -1C at 7am.

Armidale reached a low of zero while at the airport, with the wind chill, it felt like a freezing -7C.

The New England Highway was closed between Glen Innes and Armidale because of black ice.

And Sydney and surrounds shivered through another cold night after the city experienced its coldest June day in 20 years on Monday with a maximum of just 11.7C.

At Mount Boyce in the Blue Mountains it was -1.1C early this morning.

Campbelltown was 4C at 7am and Richmond was a frosty 5.4C at 6am. Sydney Observatory near the CBD recorded a minimum temperature of 7.7C at 7.30am.

The central tablelands around Bathurst, Orange and Oberon had snow on Friday night, and are continuing to shiver.

Guyra, in the NSW northern tablelands, woke to snow — and black ice — which closed roads between Glen Innes and Armidale this morning.

Bathurst’s 5.7C temperature at 9.30am today felt like 2.6C with the wind chill taken in, and temperatures are expected to drop to -1C tonight., according to Weatherzone.

Over the past few days snow has fallen across large parts of NSW including Orange, Oberon, Katoomba, Lithgow and in the Barrington Tops National Park.

Katoomba is expected to reach a maximum of 9C today.

The big chill hit Queensland southeast coast and inland overnight.

Temperatures dropped to zero at Beaudesert, south of Brisbane, with Coolangatta on the Gold Coast dropped to 3C — uncharacteristically colder than some places inland including the Darling Downs and the Granite Belt, in the Queensland area of the Great Dividing Range.

Toowoomba had a low of 3C. At Warwick, the mercury fell to 4C.

There were reports of sleet in the Granite Belt, with more forecast later in the week when another cold front is due to hit eastern states.

Yes, there’s more cold where that came from, the Bureau of Meteorology warns.

Melbourne is looking down the barrel of its coldest week of the year — with rain ahead of another cold front sweeping through the city on Thursday. The city had its coldest day of the year on Monday with a top of 10.4 degrees.

The cold front will sweep into NSW keeping temperatures low, but not quite as icy as last weekend’s big chill.

Meanwhile, in Australias ski fields, the subzero temperatures continue.

Perisher and Thredbo in NSW expect more snow showers on Wednesday and Thursday, with minimum temperatures of -5C and tops of -3C on Thursday night as the next cold front hits.

In Victoria, the alpine resorts of Falls Creek, Mount Buller and Mount Hotham were expecting scattered snow showers today and winds of up to 30km/hour for the rest of the week.

Sub-zero temperatures at all resorts are keeping the snow intact, but those out in it icy — with -5C at Thredbo today feeling like -13C thanks to wind chill.
