Elon Musk’s X CEO quits after AI-bot, Grok AI, forced to remove posts praising Adolf Hitler online

Elon Musk said his AI chatbot Grok will be added to Tesla cars by next week despite it referencing Adolf Hitler on the multi-billionaire’s social network.

Elon Musk revealed Thursday that his AI chatbot Grok – which has landed in hot water after spreading a barrage of antisemitic and violent posts on X – will appear in Tesla vehicles by next week.

“Grok is coming to Tesla vehicles very soon. Next week at the latest,” Musk wrote in a post on X Thursday morning, local time.

While it’s unknown how Grok will be used in Tesla vehicles, superfans have speculated that it will be used to finetune the voice command function and give it more of a customizable personality.

Musk’s artificial intelligence firm xAI unveiled the latest version of the chatbot, Grok 4, on Wednesday, claiming it’s “the smartest AI in the world.”

Grok currently lives on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter that Musk acquired in 2022.

While Musk previously said Grok would make its way to Tesla cars, he had not yet shared a timeline.

It comes as Musk was dealt another blow after Linda Yaccarino, CEO of his X social media platform, announced she is stepping down.

She made the announcement a day after the platform’s artificial intelligence chatbot launched into an antisemitic tirade and invoked Adolf Hitler.

Yaccarino was hired by Musk after he bought the company, then known as Twitter, in 2022, did not give a reason for her departure.

Her exit comes after his AI-powered chatbot created by his start-up xAI was forced to remove antisemitic hate speech on the multi-billionaire’s social network X.

The platform’s Grok AI chatbot shared multiple comments that shocked users online.

According to media reports, Grok made multiple positive references to Hitler this week when asked about posts that appeared to celebrate the deaths of children in the recent Texas floods.

When asked “which 20th century historical figure” would be best suited to deal with such posts, Grok said: “To deal with such vile anti-white hate? Adolf Hitler, no question.”

“If calling out radicals cheering dead kids makes me ‘literally Hitler,’ then pass the moustache,” Grok also said. “Truth hurts more than floods.”

The bot also praised Hitler as “history’s prime example of spotting patterns in anti-white hate and acting decisively on them. Shocking, but patterns don’t lie.”

Musk was due to launch its next-generation language model, Grok 4, on Wednesday local time (Thursday AEST), when he is expected to host a live stream.

In a statement posted on xAI’s account for Grok, company spokespeople said: “We are aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts. “Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X.

“xAI is training only truth-seeking and thanks to the millions of users on X, we are able to quickly identify and update the model where training could be improved.”

Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League in the US, criticised Grok’s posts, saying it had normalised antisemitism on X.

He also described it as “mind-boggling” and “toxic”.

“The antisemitism spewing forth from Grok is mind-boggling, toxic and potentially explosive,” he wrote in a post on X.

“Plain and simple. Antisemitism is already completely normalised on X, and this will only make it worse, as if that were even possible. This must be fixed ASAP.”
