Elon Musk to unveil new artificial intelligence chatbot Grok 3

Elon Musk is about to release a new artificial intelligence product which he says will be far superior to anything else like it in the world. These are its capabilities.

Elon Musk Unveils Grok 3: ‘Smartest AI on Earth’ Launching with Live Demo

Internet users around the world will be keeping a close eye on X as Elon Musk’s startup xAI releases its Grok 3 chatbot, billed as the “smartest AI on Earth”.

The company’s flagship artificial intelligence product aims to rival existing models in the industry and will be released on Tuesday morning (Australian time) with a live demonstration.

“Grok 3 release with live demo on Monday night at 8pm PT. Smartest AI on Earth,” the tech tycoon wrote on his social media platform X on Sunday.

Then on Monday, he replied to his original tweet: “It’s looking good!”

Musk hinted at the latest chatbot competing with the likes of ChatGPT and DeepSeek.

“Grok 3 has very powerful reasoning capabilities, so in the tests that we’ve done thus far, Grok 3 is outperforming anything that’s been released, that we’re aware of, so that’s a good sign,” he said.

WHAT CAPABILITIES DOES GROK 3 HAVE?

In a call addressing the World Governments Summit in Dubai last week, Musk talked about Grok 3’s ability to reduce the amount of errors that creep into AI, often called ‘hallucinations’.

It does this by going back and forth through the data and achieves logical consistency, he said, so if it has wrong data that doesn’t fit reality, Grok 3 will be able to reflect on it and remove the error.

Musk also said that Grok 3 was trained using more computational power than any other Grok model so far, and that a lot of synthetic data has been used in the training process.

He did not reveal details about the chatbot’s image generation capability, with xAI offering some of the best photorealistic image rendering around thanks to its use of the Flux AI model, and in December announced that it was using a new model Auroria image model.

In a statement xAI said: “Aurora is an autoregressive mixture-of-experts network trained to predict the next token from interleaved text and image data. We trained the model on billions of examples from the internet, giving it a deep understanding of the world. As a result, it excels at photorealistic rendering and precisely following text instructions. Beyond text, the model also has native support for multimodal input, allowing it to take inspiration from or directly edit user-provided images.”

Grok differs from other AI image generators because it enables you to create images of celebrities, cartoon superheros and politicians, seemingly without restriction.

Grok-3 will also be three-time faster that Grok-2 and will have better accuracy, multilingual and instruction-following capacity.

HOW TO ACCESS GROK 3?

The Grok AI chatbot can be accessed by anyone for free by signing up on X, Elon Musk’s social media platform.

Premium and Premium+ users will get higher usage limits. It’s not currently clear if Grok 3 will initially be available free to all users or just Premium and Premium+ users.

MUSK’S $155 BID SHOT DOWN

It comes after Musk last week made a $A155 billion ($US97.4bn) bid to gain control of OpenAI.

However, Sam Altman, the boss of OpenAI, shot down the unsolicited offer, and returned fire with an offer to buy Musk’s social media platform X at one tenth of the price.

“No thank you but we will buy twitter (sic) for $9.74 billion if you want,” he wrote on the same platform.

Chinese startup DeepSeek shocked the global AI industry last month with the launch of its low-cost, high-quality chatbot, a challenge to US ambitions to lead the world in developing the technology.

DeepSeek quickly overtook ChatGPT in downloads on the Apple app store.

Musk has repeatedly warned that AI poses a risk to human civilisation, but he is nonetheless pushing hard for a bigger slice of investment in the sector.

xAI said in December it raised $A9.4 billion ($US6 billion) in its latest funding round from investors that included US venture capitalists, chipmakers Nvidia and AMD, and investment funds from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, among others.

The company is now one of the world’s most valuable startups, though still dwarfed by OpenAI.
