Donald Trump regularly offends and outrages in 140 characters or less. Here’s his lengthy Twitter rap sheet

IF he wasn’t president, Donald Trump might’ve been banned from Twitter by now for trolling. Here’s his history of offending and outraging in 140 characters or less.

KENNEDY delivered stirring speeches inspiring Americans to do their bit for the country, Roosevelt held fireside chats with millions via radio ... Trump tweets about “haters and losers”.

American presidents throughout history have used a variety of methods to communicate directly with the public, with words of wisdom that will echo for an eternity.

But Donald Trump, the current leader of the free world, has come under repeated fire for his use of the social networking website Twitter, offending and outraging in 140 characters or less.

His latest internet indiscretion saw his “war on the media” reach a bizarre new height, with a doctored video of him body slamming CNN.

It came just days after his deeply personal swipe at TV host Mika Brzezinski, whom he called “crazy” and claimed “was bleeding badly from a facelift” when he last saw her.

So unapologetically prolific is Trump’s use of the platform that Congress wants to legislate to prevent him from deleting any, so they can be preserved in the same way past presidential communications have been archived.

The Atlantic has a running live blog to compile each new social media absurdity, while the Trump Twitter Archive keeps a catalogue of every message ever sent with a count of regularly used phrases — ‘loser’ features 234 times — and search functionality.

“I don’t regret anything, because there is nothing you can do about it,” the president told the Financial Times about some of his more inflammatory posts.

“You know if you issue hundreds of tweets, and every once in a while you have a clinker, that’s not so bad.”

And he’s not going anywhere, saying: “Without the tweets, I wouldn’t be here”.

Whether it’s attacking fellow politicians, hurling personal digs at reporters, spreading conspiracy theories or capitalising on human tragedy, Trump shows no signs of reigning in his micro rants.

SEXIST REMARKS

Trumps’ treatment of women was a topic of discussion long before the leaking last year of tapes in which he can be heard boasting about “grabbing them by the p***”.

A particularly low blow came in August 2012 when he took aim at media identity Ariana Huffington and her ex-husband Michael, who had come out as gay.

“(Ariana) is unattractive both inside and out. I fully understand why her former husband left her for a man — he made a good decision.” Trump tweeted.

Understandably, that jaw-dropping remark didn’t go down well.

Neither did his online contribution last year to a feud with then-Fox News commentator Megyn Kelly.

At rallies, he implied she had gone overly hard on him during an interview because she was menstruating. Online, he labelled her “overrated and a lightweight” and reshared tweets calling her a bimbo.

He also sparked dismay in May 2013 when he raised the issue of sexual misconduct in America’s armed forces.

“26,000 unreported sexual assaults in the military-only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men & women together?” he wrote.

WEIRD OBSESSIONS

When Twilight co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart hit a bumpy road in their real-life relationship in late 2012, Trump was incensed.

He took to Twitter on about a dozen occasions over a few weeks to offer his thoughts on Stewart’s reported affair, offering Pattinson advice and even trying to set him up with some beauty pageant winners.

“Everyone is asking me to speak more on Robert & Kristen,” he tweeted in October of that year.
“I don’t have time except to say ‘Robert, drop her, she cheated on you & will again!’”

His other odd musings include the beverage choices of overweight people, pop star Katy Perry’s failed marriage to British comedian Russel Brand and climate change.

“The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive,” Trump claimed in November 2012.

And while he might be a climate sceptic, there was a moment in time when he seemed to have some hope he was wrong.

“It’s freezing and snowing in New York — we need global warming!” he wrote.

MOCKING MEXICO

Trump’s comment to the press about Mexican immigrants being rapists caused widespread anger. So too did his Tweet to commemorate the celebration Cinco de Mayo.

LOSERS AND HATERS

Trump has many catchcries, from his campaign favourite “Make America great again!” to his description of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton as “crooked”.

And when it comes to his enemies, they’re most often referred to as “haters” or losers”. Or both.

In May 2013, Trump took a seemingly unprompted swipe at that group while also dropping a little humble brag in about his own intelligence.

“Sorry losers and haters, but my IQ is one of the highest — and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.”

It was on the back of a segment by comedian Jon Stewart on The Daily Show several days earlier, in which the host referred to Trump as “F***face von Clownstick”.

The nickname went viral and eventually he couldn’t help but respond.

In a roundabout way, he took time out at the end of another year to send his well wishes to all the losers of the world.

Last New Year’s Eve, he wrote: “Happy new year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought and lost so badly they just don’t know what to do. Love!”

GET TO DA TWITTA

One of Trump’s many foes is actor, bodybuilder and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Arnie was signed as the host of the show Trump once hosted, The Apprentice, and it seemed the president wasn’t pleased.

“Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger did a really bad job as Governor of California and even worse on the Apprentice ... but at least he tried hard!” he rather ungraciously wrote in February.

When it was later announced that Schwarzenegger was leaving the show, Trump again took time out from being one of the most powerful people on the planet to offer his thoughts.

ATTACKING OBAMA

It’s no secret that Trump wasn’t a fan of President Barack Obama. From the billionaire’s long-running campaign accusing him of lying about being born in America to criticising the number of holidays he took, Trump didn’t hold back on Twitter.

Donald Trump made no secret of his loathing of Barack Obama.

“Obama is, without question, the WORST EVER president. I predict he will now do something really bad and totally stupid to show manhood!” Trump tweeted in June 2014.

He even once offered a deal-sweetener should Obama resign from office — a free lifetime membership at one of his golf courses.

ATTACKING REPUBLICANS

Trump’s anger isn’t reserved just for this on the other side of politics. The president isn’t shy to go after members of his own party.

When fellow candidate Jeb Bush’s mum Barbara, former first lady, sat for a television interview about her son, Trump fired up.

“Wow, Jeb Bush, whose campaign is a total disaster, had to bring in mommy to take a slap at me. Not nice!” he wrote.

He also launched Twitter attacks on Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, John McCain and many, many others.

And he often did so while referring to himself in third person.
