A RALLY at Town Hall turned nasty this afternoon when fans of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and radio king Alan Jones clashed.
About 40 people marched from the city to the steps of Town Hall, chanting "our city our rights" to hear key note speaker 2GB's Mr Jones.
Mr Jones said the crowd, of about 40, was by no means a "measure of the anger that exists in this city".
He held a thick folder from the past six weeks of correspondence to his radio program from people fed up with a lack of parking and local issues.
"At the end of the day, people have had enough of this. This is an important decision people are making in Saturday week," he said.
But his speech was interrupted just seven minutes in, by two hecklers, one who began yelling about burning coal, and another who repeatedly yelled questions about public toilets.
Rally attendees turned on the hecklers, with the toilet heckler told he had a "filthy gutter mouth" and the other told protestors to "f*ck off" when they told him to leave.
Mr Jones said local shops were suffering because they were "not allowed any parking spaces" sending shoppers to Westfield where they can park for free.
"This is not rocket science, this is commonsense. When you are saying we are anti-car, we are giving development approvals for massive development with 160 units and there are no parking spaces, what are the consequences of this?"
He said families who live in the city cannot have their mother visit from Casula or Bowral because there was no parking.
"What kind of city is this? These are genuine concerns. This city does not belong to Clover Moore, it belongs to people who live here," he said.
He called for bikes to be registered and governed by the same rules that apply to motorists.
"No one is opposed to riding bikes, but you have to consult with people where the bike lanes are going to be and you have to register the bike," he said.
But when Mr Jones started talking about a 77 year old woman who was locked in her own driveway by a parked car because there was no on-street parking, a heckler began yelling: "Who voted for you?"
He then began chanting "Alan Jones is the future, burn more coal. You are a fool" and threatening to drown him.
To which fans began yelling: "No, you are, you're the fool' and asking him to 'go away' and 'p*ss off'.
Mr Jones said 20 years ago Kings Cross was the Paris of Sydney and now "people are not prepared to go to the place" because people drink all day and let police deal with the violence.
He questioned why Kings Cross had inadequate lighting and the CCTV been so delayed, resulting in the death of Thomas Kelly,18.
"She has extended the hours people have access to drinking and people are concerned about the levels of violence. But when in trouble she blames the State Government," he said.
The heckler replied: "So now she is a murderer is she?"
Mr Jones continued, saying that business could be helped with changes to parking and changing the voting rules so people who work in the city get a vote.
"If you have someone who is anti car, pro bikes, making sure there is no where to park anywhere, at the end of the day the shop keeper shad to say I have to stop doing business," he said.
The heckler yelled: "Haven't you heard of a traffic jam?".
But when one heckler left, another came., questioning attendees if they lived in the city and asking Mr Jones: "How are the public toilets?".
The crowd turned on him saying he "had to get his mind out of the gutter" and that he was a "gutter rat".
Consumer and Taxpayer Association spokesman Jacques Laxale called for the Lord Mayor to attend the rally.
"She sits there in her Taj Mahal and wants everyone on a push bike while she gets chauffeured to the office and back," he said.
