Cycling commentator Phil Liggett reveals ‘bizarre’ Adelaide accident to Twitter fans

The famed cycling commentator says he’s nursing broken bones after a “bizarre accident” in South Australia.

The man famed as “the voice of cycling” says his work in Adelaide will continue, despite a freak injury that’s left him nursing four broken ribs.

Commentator Phil Liggett told his Twitter followers on Saturday that he suffered a “bizarre accident on the river” last week that landed him in an Adelaide hospital.

Ok, the secret's out and I can confirm I did break four ribs in a bizarre accident on the river last week. Doctors, and Adelaide hospital have been amazing and thanks to them, my work on the Tour Down Under continues. Thank you all for your concern and kindness.

“OK, the secret’s out and I can confirm I did break four ribs in a bizarre accident on the river last week,” he tweeted.

“Doctors, and Adelaide hospital have been amazing and thanks to them, my work on the Tour Down Under continues.

Thank you all for your concern and kindness.”

He did not say how the accident occurred.

Liggett is a British journalist and cycling commentator famous for reporting on the sport for decades, including at 15 Olympic Games and 50 Tours de France.

He is in South Australia for the 2023 Tour Down Under, starting this weekend.
