SYDNEY sprinter Chris Sutton is out of the Tour Down Under, the second victim of a street circuit crash in Adelaide on Sunday.
The Australian joins Italian Giovanni Visconti on the sidelines prior to the first stage of the World Tour race on Tuesday.
His Team Sky outfit confirmed today Sutton was a late scratching from the 2014 edition of the six-stage Tour following his crash at the People's Choice Classic.
While Sutton went on to finish fourth he suffered a small fracture to his right wrist in an early race crash which an X-rays on Monday confirmed.
"It's a massive blow not to be continuing on with the lads because they did an incredible job for me last night," Sutton said.
" My groin and my knee were pretty sore in the race but it was only afterwards, on the way back to the hotel, that my wrist started hurting and I couldn't grip the handlebars.
"I'm trying to stay upbeat and looking forward to the Tour of Qatar now. That should be my first race back and I'll have a week or so on the turbo before getting myself back on the road.
"In the meantime, I'll be staying within the team during the Tour Down Under an cheering the lads on."
Sutton will be replaced in the Team Sky line-up by Tasmanian Nathan Earle.
"We couldn't have wished for anyone better to come in," Sutton said. "He showed at the Nationals he's riding really well and good on him for coming into the group at such short notice."
