Annette Edmondson column: In the end, I ran out of legs. Now it’s time to return to the track

AFTER her best Women’s Tour Down Under yet, South Aussie cyclist Annette Edmondson will now turn her attention to winning gold on the track at the Commonwealth Games.

THE plan on Sunday night was to not use too much energy, and focus on the final sprint.

During the race I was going to try to chip away at the lesser points during the intermediates, but after one attempt we decided it best to sit in and wait for the final.

We tried to do what we could and got together on the final lap.

The girls did a great job but I just didn’t have the legs to finish it off like I did on the first day, but was glad to hang onto third.

A little part of us is disappointed not to win the stage but I’m pleased to have made the podium and get through the stage without any skin off.

The crash midway through was literally the wheel in front of me.

My chain came off and my foot came out but I managed to hold it up thankfully.

I’m really happy with the week, I wasn’t sure what to expect coming in and it was my best Tour Down Under yet.

I’m very thankful to have the support of my team, WiggleHigh5.

I’ve got an easy day at training on Monday and then I start track camp which is an important one before the track nationals in February, in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games.

I’ll then rejoin the WiggleHigh5 team in Geelong for the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race and the Herald Sun Tour in Victoria.

Now that I’m finished, it’s time for my brother, Alex to take on the men’s Tour Down Under, so make sure you give him and the Mitchelton-Scott boys a shout this week.
