Netflix series Break Point offers up a side of Nick Kyrgios we’ve not seen

Nick Kyrgios divides opinions like no other Australian athlete and now we’re getting a look behind the curtain at the mercurial star.

No matter what Nick Kyrgios does heavy backlash ensues, but we’re all about to see a side of the man we’ve never seen before.

In Netflix’s upcoming series, Break Point, the mercurial Aussie lays it all on the table as cameras take fans into a world behind the curtain of the tennis world.

Kyrgios, 27, is the focal point for the opening episode of the 10-part series which will be released on Friday, January 13 and it shows off his rollercoaster journey throughout his career while tracking him at the 2022 Australian Open.

Ever since he first stepped on the court the Canberra native has divided the opinions of fans across the country.

Some can’t stand his antics and explosive outbursts, others love every second of the show that comes with his games.

He remains one of the most supremely talented tennis players on the face of the Earth, a fact not lost on those within the sport.

“I think he’s the most talented tennis player that I’ve seen in 10 years,” legend John McEnroe says.

Former world number one Andy Roddick adds: “It’s insane what he’s able to do on the court, I wish I would have had his talent.”

The mercurial Aussie entered the opening grand slam on the 2022 calendar with many speculating it could be the last time he’s seen at the Down Under event and even moreso it could be his final year on the tour.

“I don’t know if this is going to be the last time, nothing good lasts forever though yeah,” Kyrgios says.

“My tennis career depends on how I play this year. People really don’t understand how different I go about my tennis or my life or my career compared to every other tennis player.”

On his day he has what it takes to eclipse the best the world has to offer and can even make them look second rate when fully locked in.

But it’s the other side of the coin that constantly steals the spotlight away. With all the talent in the world, it’s his explosive side that becomes the selling point and it’s his temper that leaves so many people turning their nose up at him.

“He’s not a bad guy, he just becomes the devil when he enters the court,” long-time rival Stefanos Tsitsipas says.

Kyrgios’ singles campaign came to an end in the second round at the hands of Daniil Medvedev and fans saw the entire show he brings to the court.

“I lose my s**t because of little things happening out there, I’ve just got such a short fuse. It’s almost like a habit,” Kyrgios says.

“In the heat of battle I’m two different people. Sometimes I do cross the line, that’s just my passion, my emotion.

“Millions of people watching you and you’re not playing your best, would you not be frustrated and angry?”

Australia and the tennis world were then greeted to an unseen spectacle as Kyrgios teamed up with good mate Thanasi Kokkinakis.

They shook up the doubles world and rode their electric wave all the way to the Australian Open crown.

Kyrgios entered the Australian Open unsure of his playing future, he left it on top of the world and showed in 2022 he has what it takes to mix it with the best.

Now we wait to see what 2023 has in store for the electric 27-year-old. Love him or hate him, we’ll all be watching.
