AUSTRALIA’s men will take refuge in the European grass court season after a French Open singles whitewash.

All six entrants — Bernard Tomic, John Millman, Jordan Thompson, Alex De Minaur, James Duckworth and Matt Ebden — failed to survive Roland Garros’ first hurdle.

It is the first time Australian men have failed to win a round in Paris since 2011 when Tomic was the lone campaigner — and stumbled in the opening stage.

With Millman and Ebden staying in Paris to contest doubles, the others will start preparations for Wimbledon next month.

Injured Nick Kyrgios is practising in the French capital while Tomic has returned to Monte Carlo.

Kyrgios could contest next week’s Surbiton Challenger doubles next week, where Lleyton Hewitt will partner fellow South Australian Alex Bolt.
