Fans slam tennis star girlfriend’s cringe act in trophy presentation

The girlfriend of American tennis star Tommy Paul has ruffled feathers with an unusual act in the trophy presentation after his big win.

Tommy Paul became king of Queen’s in London before kissing his own queen.

The American blew past Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-1 7-6 in the final to take the A$685,000 prize.

The Sun reports Paul, 27, shared a touching moment with his girlfriend Paige Lorenze after his triumph, posing together for photos on the court.

Lorenze, 26, has over 600,000 followers on Instagram and has founded several brands.

But some fans thought Lorenze should have let Paul to soak in the spotlight on his own, with one commenting on X: “Relax girl, nobody’s taking him away from u.”

Paul follows fellow Americans Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and Andy Roddick with this success at Queen’s.

The new American No. 1 said: “This means everything. Going through the hallways and the locker rooms, the names that are up there, it’s unbelievable.

“It was always my goal to put my name next to them.

“My coach is the one who turned me into a little bit of a tennis historian.

“Thanks also to my whole team. Thanks for grabbing a shirt for me – because I only came out here with one shirt.

“Lorenzo had a good week and has been playing some awesome tennis. I’m happy to get the win.

“It was nervy to close out the match. It got tricky at the end. This is the perfect way to go to Wimbledon.”

Paul will now look to carry this momentum into Wimbledon, where he has never made it past the fourth round.

And Lorenze should be right at home in the glamorous surroundings of SW19.

Meanwhile, British tennis legend Andy Murray is plotting a miracle Wimbledon comeback after undergoing spinal surgery on Saturday.

The tennis legend, 37, is hoping to be fit for Wimbledon, which start on Monday July 1, despite having a cyst removed.

Murray is weighing up his options and praying that his body responds well to the operation, which was deemed a success by medics.

The plan would be to play in singles combat and as it stands, Murray remains in the main draw, which will take place at the All England Club on Friday morning.
