SYDNEY Sixers keep Alyssa Healy provided a highlight flick back on the last ball of the innings to run out Brisbane Heat’s Holly Ferling.

The Sixers proved quick learners when they crushed the Heat by eight wickets in their return WBBL match. Brisbane had beaten Sydney the previous day, but the Sixers restricted the visitors to 9-83 on Monday and reached their modest target with four overs to spare.

Captain and player of the match Ellyse Perry controlled the Sixers’ chase — which was more like a stroll — scoring an unbeaten 45 off 43 balls. The series has followed the trend of the first two completed in the opening round in which the Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers split their two games, as did the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades.

The Melbourne Stars can take the outright competition lead in Albury on Tuesday if they do the double over defending champions the Sydney Thunder, whom they beat on Saturday.

Unlike Sunday, when they recovered from 4-38 to beat the Sixers at North Sydney, there was no fightback by Brisbane on Monday.

The Heat’s top order was again in frosty form, slumping to 4-20 after seven overs.

Their saviours on Sunday, Deandra Dottin and Jess Jonassen, just made it to double figures, but both were out to poor shots and scored at less than a run a ball.

None of the Heat’s top four got to double figures and Jemma Barsby’s defiant unbeaten 26 off 31 balls was the only individual score above 14. Barsby provided the batting highlight of the innings with a reverse sweep for six, but Brisbane tallied just three fours and one other six. Ashleigh Gardner and Sarah Aley took two wickets each, with the latter and Perry conceding less than three an over in their respective stints.

Perry said the Sixers had spoken about how to bowl better to Deandra Dottin (12) who blasted 60 not out on Sunday.

“I thought we had the right bowlers bowling to her early today,” Perry said. “Marizanne (Kapp) and Sarah Aley have been our two best bowlers so far in the competition and to get them on early against her was really effective.”
