IT was some of the most memorable moments of last years Paralympics and it has earned Katie Kelly and guide Michellie Jones top honours at their sports awards.
While ironman Tim Reed took out the Male Performer of the Year award at the Triathlon Australia celebration, Kelly has claimed the top award for female triathletes.
Kelly, who is vision and hearing-impaired, created history as Australia’s first ever Paralympic gold medallist in Rio last year.

With Jones, Australia’s first elite triathlon medallist with her silver at the Sydney Olympics back in 2000, by her side, the pair raced to the only medal won by Para or elite triathletes in Rio last year.
Kelly only started the sport in 2015 when declared legally blind due to a degenerative condition affecting both her hearing and vision.
Reed was named best Male Performer for his outstanding win at the 70.3 world championship in Mooloolaba and also took out the Athlete’s Athlete of the Year Award.
