A NEWLY formed Tigers women’s team has claimed the major honours in the inaugural NRL Touch premiership on Sunday but have just been piped for a club double.
The Tigers defeated the Broncos 4-2 in the women’s final at Cbus Stadium on the Gold Coast on Sunday but the Broncos prevailed to win the men’s game 6-5.
Tigers player Paige Markey, who scored twice in the decider, said she and her teammates were delighted with the win as they had not played together prior to the tournament.

“It was the first time we played together because the Tigers are a combination of two old teams, NSW Sydney and Sydney Met,’’ Markey said.
“You could tell that at the start but as went on things really improved.’’
After a draw in the men’s game, the match was decided by a three-on-three player drop-off.
The grand finals were played before the Titans v Warriors NRL match with six NRL clubs involved in competition in the Wests Tigers, Parramatta Eels, Newcastle Knights, Gold
Coast Titans, Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys.
“We’re looking forward to developing it so it’s even bigger and better next year. We’re currently speaking with NRL clubs with the view to have more teams, and certainly more rounds, next year,’’ said Touch Football Australia CEO Steve Mitchell.
