Tasmanian yacht Alive has been declared the overall winner of the Sydney to Hobart after a wait of more than 24 hours.
At 8am on Sunday morning race officials called the result.
The yacht finished fifth over the line ahead of the all-women’s team on Wild Oats X which has claimed second place.
The Hugh Ellis owned Victorian yacht Voodoo is third overall.
Interestingly the 66-footer Alive was formerly known as Black Jack and owned by Peter Harburg who now races the 100-footer of the same name.
“This is pretty awesome. We are very lucky and very happy,’’ said skipper Duncan Hine.
“I guess the thing we enjoyed them most was the close racing we had against the women’s boat all the way to Hobart.
“We were in sight of them the whole way.’’
The 66-footer owned by Phil Turner finished the race in two days one hour 40 minutes 36 seconds to claim fifth place over the line.
Jackson and her professional team finished in sixth, just 13 minutes after Alive.
Alive is just the fourth yacht from Tasmania to claim the highest award in the Sydney to Hobart.
Early Sunday morning 61 yachts had pledged the Sydney to Hobart with 18 still at sea.
The stragglers, at this stage, are all expected to be safely docked by New Years Eve.
