HER fiance may have changed NRL jerseys, but world renown surfer Sally Fitzgibbons has just added one to her wardrobe.
The passionate sports fan and NRL lover says while Trent Merrin has gone west her heart has also remained true to the St George Dragons.
But Gilmore, down at Bells Beach competing at the famous Rip Curl Pro, has admitted to The Daily Telegraph, she is a little relieved that she is otherwise occupied this weekend.
“What an epic clash of my two teams this Easter Sunday,” said Fitzgibbons.
“It would have been a tough call if I was live at the game, might have had to sit on halfway, ha ha.
“I know Trent will really enjoy the feeling of just running out in WIN Stadium again.
“It’s one of his favourite stadiums to play in and I think he will thrive off the energy and having family and friends there to support him.”
Fitzgibbons said Merrin, hospitalised with a virus last week, understands why she is staying loyal to the Dragons despite his move to the Panthers — a team she has adopted in support.
“It’s a great debate around the dinner table when we chat about teams, “ said Fitzgibbons who was also struck down by a virus as she prepared for her surfing event.
“He would prefer I just had one (team) but knows I love my home club too.
“I will always be a Dragons supporter and am lucky enough to have another team to barrack for at Penny Panthers.”
The glamour sporting couple will be spending plenty of time apart this year with Merrin committed to Australian shores with the NRL while Fitzgibbons will have numerous overseas events to contest as she chases a maiden world surfing crown.

As a two-time former winner of the Rip Curl Pro she is one of the favourites to dominate.
