Surf teen Macy Callaghan in, Courtney Conlogue out of Margaret River Pro

AUSSIE teen Macy Callaghan has been awarded her third straight start on the world surfing tour with top American Courtney Conlogue out injured for the Margaret River Pro.

CENTRAL COAST teenager Macy Callaghan has been awarded her third straight start on the world surfing tour with top American Courtney Conlogue confirming she has yet to fully recover from a broken foot suffered pre-season.

Conlogue’s protracted recovery has almost certainly ruled her out of the race for the 2018 world crown with surfers allowed to drop only their two worst performances.

Conlogue had been one of the favourites to dominate at the Margaret River Pro after making the final three of the past four years.

“It is never easy to pull out of an event, especially when you’re so excited to get the new season going,” Conlogue said.

Callaghan failed to qualify for the world tour in 2018, instead snaring the position as the injury replacement for the world tour.

This saw her surf at both the Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast in March and this month’s Rip Curl Pro and will pit her against world champion Tyler Wright and American Tatiana Weston-Webb in heat five of the opening round when the event commences.
