AFTER a decade’s absence from the national team, Chelsea Forkin has returned to the Emeralds for the upcoming World Baseball Cup in South Korea.
The top-level softballer, who has recently returned from a stint playing the game in the US, has been named in the new Australian women’s basketball team for the World Cup in Gijant, Korea.
Forkin made her baseball debut for Australia back in 2004 before deciding to concentrate on softball.
The Queensland veteran recently competed for Australia at the softball world cup.
Forkin and 19 players were named on Tuesday in the Australian World Cup baseball team after a two-day camp on the Gold Coast.
“We had 32 of the best players from across the country come in and play five games, take part in various off-field activities, and all showed a great commitment to the Emeralds program,’’ said coach Simone Wearne.
“It was a very difficult task selecting just 20 players from a group of talented girls but we feel like we have a great mix of veterans and rookies that will really work well together in Korea.
“The final team includes 10 rookies, plus two returning players who have not been on the national team for around 10 years. It really is an exciting time for women’s baseball in Australia”.
The Australian Emeralds take on the USA, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong in their pool round from September 3.
