SWELL TIMES FOR AUSSIE SURFERS
Ingles has signed on as a training partner but can move up into the Super Netball ranks if required.
The move follows on from new mum Bec Bulley being enticed back to the game by the Giants and improved conditions and support for mothers under netball’s new collective bargaining agreement.
The deal includes breakthrough conditions, like clubs paying for children under 12 months old and a carer to travel to games with players, private health insurance and income protection for up to two years in the event of injury or pregnancy.
AUSSIE SKIERS FLY HIGH
Aerial skier Danielle Scott won silver and David Morris bronze in a best ever Australian Aerial Skiing Team performance at a World Championships in Spain in the weekend.
Scott’s silver medal is one better than the bronze she won at the 2013 world championships.
In the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup Finals in PyeongChang, vision impaired skier Melissa Perrine claimed bronze in the downhill.
AUSSIE DOUBLE ON PODIUM
London Olympian Emma Jackson and Rio Games representative Ashleigh Gentle have gone one-two at the Mooloolaba World Cup triathlon.
The domination shows the pair are in top form ahead of the world triathlon series race on the Gold Coast on April 8 which doubles as a selection for next year’s Commonwealth Games.
AUSSIES RIDE OFF WITH MAJOR TITLES
Australian riders Lisen Hockings, Jessica Pratt and Madeleine Fasnacht claimed all three women’s road titles on offer at the recent Oceania championships in Canberra.
Hockings, who also won bronze in the time trial, held off a five rider chasing group to claim a solo win in the women’s road race.
Defending champion Shannon Malseed out sprinted time trial champion Lucy Kennedy for the silver. The under 23 women’s title went to Pratt and the under 19 crown to Fasnacht.
OLYMPIANS BACK ON THE WATER
Rio K2 500 finalists Alyssa Bull and Alyce Burnett and London Olympian Jo Brigden-Jones have made the Australia sprint canoe squad to compete on this year’s World Cup circuit and the championships.
Australia will have five women on their World Cup campaign, with K4 crew members Jaime Roberts and Cat McArthur joining Bull and Burnett.
Also in the team are Rio paddlers Riley Fitzsimmons and Jordan Wood, multiple Olympic medallist Ken Wallace and London gold medallist Murray Stewart.
Australia’s medal winning Paralympics trio of Curtis McGrath, Amanda Reynolds and Susan Seipel will compete in the Paracanoe world championships along with Rio Paralympians Jocelyn Neumueller and Dylan Littlehales.
NELSON MAKES MARK
Runner Ella Nelson posted a big win in the women’s 200m to move a step closer to qualifying for London 2017 world championships at the Summer of Athletics Grand Prix.
Nelson posted a 23.00 (w: +1.5) — the fastest time by an Australian this year,
Nelson needs to win the national title later this month to guarantee her position.
“I was so nervous, my two biggest fears are flying and opening up my season and I’ve done both this week after coming back from the States earlier this week,’’ she said.
“I’m glad to have ticked the box, got the qualifier and now for nationals.’’
