Sam Wallace a top gun for NSW Swifts in Super Netball with 2018 MVP award

IMPORTS have struck another blow in Super Netball with shooter Sam Wallace named the Swifts MVP for the second season of the elite competition.

Just days after international players dominated the Team of the Year, Wallace has claimed the top club award at the Swifts end of season gala.

Super Netball boasts an open import rule with teams making the most of their ability to snare overseas players with four of the starting seven in the Team of the Year internationals in Jamaican Jhaniele Fowler, South African Karla Pretorius and English stars Geva Mentor and Serena Guthrie.

Wallace, from Trinidad & Tobago, was scouted by former coach Rob Wright and bought to the club for the first season of Super Netball.

Under new coach Briony Akle she has blossomed to earn MVP honours.

“What I love about Sam on court is how much style and flair she brings to the game. Her shooting ability is second to none, and her ability to score from anywhere in the circle means she is always a handful for the best defenders in the game,” Akle said.

“There are lots of things you can teach in this game but raw talent isn’t one of them and she has that in spades.

“We are very fortunate to have Sam signed up for the next two seasons and I can’t wait to see how her game develops from here.”

Wallace has shot 932 goals from 1044 attempts over the past two seasons to be fifth on the all-time competition ladder.

New Australian Diamonds squad member Sarah Klau was named Members’ Player of the Year, an award voted on by NSW Swifts members on a 3, 2, 1 basis.

Maddy Turner took out the Coaches Award for the second year in a row, captain Abbey McCulloch was named the Players’ Player and assistant Coach Anita Keelan was named Club Person of the Year.
