Sally Pearson fails to make cut as finalist for IAAF World Female Athlete of the Year

SHE has produced one of the most memorable moments in Australian sport but hurdler Sally Pearson will be missing from the podium at the IAAF World Athlete of the Year Awards.
Pearson has been snubbed as a finalist in her sports most prestigious awards despite one of the most inspired comebacks in world sport in 2017.

Instead Ethiopian distance runner Almaz Ayana, Greek pole vaulter Ekaterini Stefanidi and heptathlon world champion Nafissatou Thiam from Belgium have been named as the three women’s finalists.
Pearson claimed world headlines with her battle back to the top of her game.
Missing the Rio Olympics, Pearson overcame numerous personal and injury hurdles to claim the world crown at the IAAF world championships in London in September.
It was an extraordinary comeback from career-threatening injuries for the 2012 London Olympics champion.

Distance runner Mo Farah, 400m specialist Wayde van Niekerk and high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim have been nominated for the men’s award.
The finalists were decided by a three-way voting process which included votes from the IAAF Council, the IAAF Family and fans voting online.
Winners will be named at an awards gala in Monaco on November 24.
