THEY might be four years away but Australia’s Jessica Fox is already putting in effort to ensure she stars at the Tokyo Olympics.
The London silver medallist and Rio bronze medallist has claimed victory in the canoe slalom C1 at the fourth World Cup in Prague on the same course she won her world title on in 2013.
The race in the women’s class which will be introduced onto the Olympic program in Tokyo, was her first since a photo-finish deprived her of the silver at the Rio Olympics last month.
But in Prague, there was no mistaking who finished first with Fox a hefty seconds ahead of her nearest rival, Czech Republic’s Katerina Hoskova, with Great Britain paddler Mallory Franklin third.
Fox said she decided to compete in the World Cup because of her Rio Olympic disappointment.
“It’s partly the frustration of unfinished business,” Fox said.
“I hadn’t planned on doing the last two races but after Rio I decided I still wanted to paddle and race.
“Plus I love Prague and haven’t raced in Tacen in a couple years and that is one of the most challenging races.
“I also wanted to get back in the C1 and catch up with all my paddling friends before we all part for the year.”
Fox is now third overall on the World Cup ladder ahead of the last round next weekend in Europe next week.
Fox, who returned to Sydney briefly after the Olympics before flying back to Europe, said she has already moved on her Games performance.
“I move on fairly quickly,” she said.
“I have had time now to reflect on my race and I’m really proud to have achieved a second Olympic medal.’’
