NRLW grand final: Broncos head to enemy territory for shot at history

BRISBANE are red-hot favourites for the inaugural NRLW grand final, but centre Amber Pilley said the team was not going into Sunday’s finale relying on what they had already achieved.

THE Broncos’ NRLW team are ready to enter enemy territory.

Brisbane’s squad left for Sydney on Thursday morning ahead of their history-making grand final against the Roosters on Sunday at ANZ Stadium.

The red-hot favourites for the inaugural women’s NRL premiership, the Broncos have been an instant success in the short NRLW season, winning all three of their games so far.

But centre Amber Pilley said the team was not going into Sunday’s finale relying on what they had already achieved, especially after the Roosters’ strong showing against the Dragons last week.

She said there was only one chance to be the first NRLW premiers and the Broncos were going to Sydney with that knowledge.

“Everyone’s trying to treat it like another game,” she said.

“We have a big week ahead of us. We’re trying to stay settled until Sunday but obviously it’s such a surreal feeling being in a premiership team and to have the chance to play in the grand final.

“It was history in the making just to be named in the first ever Brisbane Broncos side but there’s only going to be one team that gets to be the first grand final winners.

“It’s (about) how bad do we want it? We want it so bad so we’re all going to push for each other and lift for each other.

“This is where we all want to be and we’ve worked so hard to get here. It’s an opportunity we don’t want to miss.”
