SHE’S only 24 but after almost a decade playing elite football goalie Casey Dumont felt the urge for a change and a new challenge.
The Matildas player says she has found just what she was looking for with the Western Sydney Wanderers ahead of the 2016/2017 W-League.
“I was looking for something different, something to excite me,’’ said the nomadic footballer who has previously played for both Brisbane Roar and more recently Sydney FC.
“I’m relishing the challenge of trying to step things up and help them achieve more in the league.
“I wanted a new challenge and I think the Wanderers are giving me that.’’
The move will see Dumont, on the comeback from a knee reconstruction, reconnect with her former roomie and “little sister’’, Ellie Carpenter, at 16 the youngest member of the Matildas and the Australian team at the Rio Olympics.
“That’s great because she is one of my closest mates. I’m her big sister on tour,’’ Dumont said.
Carpenter confirmed last week she would stay with the Wanderers for the upcoming season.
The Western Sydney Wanderers also have a new coach in Richard Byrne.
Byrne has experience in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom and has worked with players and teams from grassroots football up to the professional level.
This season’s W-league begins on November 5 and will comprise a 14 round regular season.
The Grand Final will be played on February 12.
