IT was another Kerr-Azy day in women’s football when Matildas star Sam Kerr rewrote more history with the first ever four-goal haul in the National Women’s Soccer League.
The high-flying Australian set world football - and social media - alight with her astounding ‘Sam Slam’ in inspiring Sky Blues FC from 3-0 down to a thrilling 5-4 victory over Seattle.
It was a performance which has confirmed the 23-year-old, backflipping footballer among the world’s best female players — a feat acknowledged when she was short-listed in the Best FIFA Women’s Player 2017 last week.

Kerr secured the match for her New Jersey team with a 94th minute header with her performance heralded by fellow players, fans and teammates who mobbed her after the match.
The result also saw Kerr became the first player in NWSL history to score two hat tricks in one season.

“This comeback showed huge character,” said Kerr in an article on her teams website.
“We can’t keep conceding lots of goals like we have been, but I know we will continue to grow. “I am really proud of my teammates because we fought through and found a way to win the game.”
The Perth Glory star and Julie Dolan medallist has now racked up an extraordinary 15 goals this season — which includes a trifecta against Kansas — to move three clear of her nearest rival.

And the good news for Australian fans is Kerr is due to be back in Australia next month for two matches against Brazil at Penrith and Newcastle.
The two friendlies are a rare opportunity for the Matildas to play at home and will be their first matches since they beat the US for the first time to win the recent Tournament of Nations.
