DEFENDER Maddy Turner saw first hand the NSW Swifts stripped of its leading lights in aggressive scouting raids in the lead-up to last weekends’s opening round of Super Netball.
But despite offers from rival clubs, she never had any intention of shipping out.
The young gun being touted as a future Diamonds defender, has finally revealed what made her decide to stay put with a once champion club ransacked by rivals in the lead up to the inaugural Super Netball competition.
“I wanted to be loyal to the club that has given me so much,” said Turner, a revelation of the 2016 season despite never having played at the elite level at the start of year.
One of only four players to stay with the Swifts, Turner is proof of coach Rob Wrights ability to fast track talented unknowns into a netball force — a point proven when the underrated side came dangerously close to upsetting cross-town rivals, the Giants, in round one.

“I signed with the Swifts pretty early, even before we found out who was leaving,” said Turner who watched teammates Kim Green and Susan Pettitt join the Giants and Sharni Layton and Caitlin Thwaites hook up with the Magpies.
“I was adamant I wanted to be coached by Rob. I got so much out of him last year. He took my game to a new level.”
Turner said she also enjoyed the culture of the Sydney club.
“Despite other people leaving it feels the right fit for me,” she said.
“They gave me my first shot and I wanted to stay with them. I wanted to show loyalty.’’
On Saturday Turner and her teammates take on the Melbourne Vixens in their first away game of the season.
