FORMER world junior champion Laura Enever is a headline act at mate Sally Fitzgibbon’s new women’s surfing event at Cronulla in November with more big names of world surfing expected to join the Sydney surfer on the start list.
The Northern Beaches star will head to the south side of Sydney for the inaugural International Beach Festival at Cronulla which features a crucial leg of the women’s world qualifying surf series.
Enever is showing career best form this season, with her latest feat going the fourth round of the Swatch Pro at Lower Trestles in the US.
Enever is now just one win away from a quarter-final appearance at the world surf league event.
When competition resumes the Sydney surfer must down Hawaiian Coco Ho to join fellow Australians Tyler Wright and Nikki CVan Dijk in the quarter-finals.
Fellow Aussies Stephanie Gilmore and tour rookie Keely Andrew are also hoping to advance into the quarter-finals.
The world qualifying surf event at the International Beach Festival from November 3-6 is the final opportunity for female surfers to either requalify for the WSL tour or to snare a spot on the 2017 event as a rookie.
It also marks Fitzgibbon’s first foray into running a major sporting event.
Only the top 10 surfers on the 2016 women’s tour automatically requalify with a field of established stars and up-and-comers slated for the women’s only event run by Fitzgibbons.
Alongside the surf tournament will be a range of sporting events including an ocean swim, ironwoman race, fun run and a boardriders invitational.
