Kezie Apps will fight through the pain of an ankle injury to take on the Roosters

JILLAROOS star Kezie Apps says it will take much more than a rolled ankle to stop her taking the field in Saturday’s crucial Sydney derby of the NRL women’s premiership.

JILLAROOS star Kezie Apps says it will take much more than a rolled ankle to stop her taking the field in Saturday’s crucial Sydney derby of the NRL women’s premiership.

It’s good news for the Dragons given captain Sam Bremner will be watching her team take on the Sydney Roosters from the Allianz Stadium stands with a broken toe .

While Bremner is still getting about in a moon boot, Apps says she is right to play.

“I rolled it, now I’m managing it. But I’m playing on. I’m not coming off,” Apps declared.

The Dragons need to win Saturday’s match to keep alive their hopes of a spot in the final of the inaugural competition.

Depending on the result of Friday’s match between the Broncos and Warriors and the margin in their own game, a loss could end the Dragons season early.

“It’s a game we need to win to help us secure a spot in the grand final so we know the importance of it,” Apps said.

“It will be a great battle. We have to be confident and really believe in ourselves and the team’s ability to win.

“I 100 per cent believe in this team.”

Should they make the final they will be boosted by the return of Bremner.

The fullback said she has one game left in her and had she played this weekend, it would have ruled her out next week if they progress.

Her toe doesn’t require surgery, but wouldn’t recover in a week to take the field again.

“If we win this weekend I’ll be playing in the final,” she said.

“It won’t heal by then but once I run on it it’s pretty hard to recover in a week’s time. If I were to play this weekend it won’t be OK for the final.

“I’ll be on the sideline again cheering them on. Hopefully we get there for the grand final and I can put the boots back on and go for it then.”
