Jessica Fox returns to form after weekend of disaster

A WEEK can be a long time in sport. Just ask Olympic paddler Jesscia Fox.

MOTIVATED by a poor performance just seven days earlier, Sydney paddler Jessica Fox has produced a flawless performance to win C1 gold at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup in Augsburg, Germany.

The London and Rio Olympic medallist was just one of two paddlers who managed to conquer the challenging course without a hiccup.

The three-time C1 world champion came home 10 seconds ahead of her nearest rival.

It was a major form reversal for Fox who just a week ago picked up 50-second penalties in both C1 and K1 races in Prague and walked away from the international meet without a single medal.

“Last week was a bit disappointing, but I came her really motivated and pumped,” Fox said.

“My semi wasn’t perfect but the final went to plan. I had a lot of energy and attacked it everywhere.

“People were a bit surprised with my results last week, but everyone makes mistakes. It’s about how you learn from them.

“I think last week was a great learning experience, and this is a new weekend, a new venue, a new race, so it’s a fresh start.”

In another great result for Australia, young paddler Kate Eckhardt finished a memorable sixth in the C1 find.

Lucien Delfour finished eighth in the men’s K1 final.
