Fox sisters team up at World Championships to push Olympic dream

THEIR dream is to compete at the Tokyo Olympics together but first Jessica and Noemie Fox will take their sister act to the world championships.
Two-time Olympic medalist Jessica Fox had double reasons to celebrate on Sunday after claiming both the K1 and C1 crowns at the Australian Open, and having teenage sister Noemie confirmed to race with her for the first time at a senior world championships in Pau, France, later this year.
Noemie Fox, 19, was named Sunday to race the C1 in a series of World Cups leading into this year’s world canoe slalom titles in France.
Fox, 23, had previously confirmed her spot in the team to race both the C1 and K1 events at the world titles by taking the double at the Oceania and Australian championships.
“It’s going to be exciting having her there doing the C1 as well,” Jess Fox said.
Ros Lawrence and Kate Eckhardt snared the two remaining K1 spots for the worlds at the Australian Open.
“It is our dream to be in Tokyo together for sure,” Fox said.
“But it’s not just us two. There’s Kate Eckhardt who has a strong future and Ros Lawrence is charging and improving a lot.”
Fox has set a personal goal of contesting both the K1 she won bronze in at the Rio Olympics and the newly added C1 class at the Tokyo Games.
She has recently decided to spend equal amounts of time training in both events.
“It definitely seems to be working,” Fox said.
“I’m thrilled with today. I raced how I wanted to and tried to paddle like the guys, attacking more, and it has worked.
“It seems my C1 has improved and I haven’t lost anything from my K1.”
