SHE flies through the air with the greatest of ease and had hoped to ride onto the podium in Rio.
But Olympian Edwina Tops-Alexander, one of the most recognisable names and faces in world equestrian, fell just short of her medal goal in Rio.
The team captain of a showjumping team was knocked out of medal contention when she made a single mistake in the event.
Earlier she had qualified for the final with a perfect round — just one of 13 riders to achieve this feat.
She ended up equalling her best performance at a games with her ninth place.
The Sydney-born rider, who lives in The Netherlands, had been in spectacular form this season and recently took over the lead in the Global Champions Tour, a crown she has won twice previously in 2011 and 2012.
