VETERAN Australian shooter Natalie Medhurst will captain the West Coast Fever in their first season of Super Netball.
The longest-serving member of the Diamonds will lead one of five establish clubs into the new era of netball.
Super Netball replaces the old trans-Tasman league and will be contested by eight teams — including newcomers the Giants, Magpies and Lightning.
All teams are Australian with the new competition to kick off on February 18.
Medhurst, 32, will captain Fever with Verity Charles, nee Simmons, named on Monday as vice.
“It’s an honour to be handed the responsibility of leading our club,” said Medhurst, who has played 86 Tests for Australia and 14 seasons of elite domestic netball.
“I’m passionate about representing Fever and firmly committed to establishing ourselves as a benchmark within this competition, both on and off the court.”
Medhurst has played four seasons with West Coast Fever with Charles returning to the club last season.
Fever’s first game of the new netball league is against the Adelaide Thunderbirds on February 19.
