TOUCH football may now be the domain of rugby league, but rugby union pillaged their talent ranks many years ago to pull together the world champion team we see in action today.

The likes of Alicia Quirk, Charlotte Caslick and Emilee Cherry haven’t only donned the green and gold for Rugby Australia, but once did so as teammates in touch too.

They were as good then as they are now.

As the new NRL Touch Premiership reaches its climax this Sunday when Brisbane Broncos play Wests Tigers in the men’s and women’s, we thought we’d dig around to see what footage there was of our rugby stars back in the day.

It’s easy to see why former Australian Women’s Sevens team coach Tim Walsh quickly recruited Caslick and Cherry and taught them how to tackle.

Both players were standouts when in the maroon for Queensland as the highlights below show.

The women’s and men’s NRL Touch Premiership grand finals will be played as curtain raisers to the Gold Coast Titans v Warriors NRL game on Sunday.

Women’s: 12 midday

Men’s: 12.40pm

Both finals will be broadcast on Fox League (502).
