Alyssa Healy strikes Aussies to T20 series win in West Indies with game to spare

Australia are one victory away from a clean sweep in their tour of West Indies after an unbeaten half century from Alyssa Healy helped put the tourists 2-0 in the T20 series with one match to play.

Australia have wrapped up a Twenty20 international series win over the West Indies with a dominant nine-wicket victory in game two of their three-match series in Barbados.

Opener Alyssa Healy smashed 10 boundaries in her unbeaten 58 (from 43 balls) as the tourists chased down a modest target of 98 in the 15th over.

Australia captain Meg Lanning won the toss and sent the hosts in to bat, after rain delayed the start, and the world champions restricted the Windies to 9-97 from their 20 overs.

Left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen (2-19) was Australia’s only multiple wicket taker with Megan Schutt, Delissa Kimmince, Georgia Wareham and Ashleigh Gardner all chipping in.

Opener Britney Cooper (39 from 33 balls) top scored for the Windies, but when she was unfortunately run out the rot set in.

Cooper was backing up too far at the non-striker’s end when right-arm spinner Gardner, bowling around the wicket, got a fingertip to a straight drive by Stacy-Ann King which crashed into the stumps.

A horrible mix-up resulted in the run out of Natasha McLean, who hadn’t faced a delivery, while Sheneta Grimmond (five) was also run out as the Windies slumped from 2-55 to 7-64 within three overs.

Only some late resistance from Chinelle Henry (21no) and Shabika Gajnabi (11) got the Windies close to the century mark as eight batters failed to reach double figures.

Healy lost opening partner Beth Mooney (eight) in the sixth over of the chase, with the score on 44, but Lanning’s 22no helped Australia ease to another dominant win.

The final match of the T20 series is on Thursday (AEST) at Kensington Oval, with Australia poised to complete a tour clean sweep having won the opener by six wickets after they wrapped up the ODI series 3-0 last week.
