Last week ... Slim pickings with only winner. Ray Thomas, Stephen Zammit and Chris Vernuccio were on the money with Osborne Bulls ($2.20) saluting at Scone. Three placings was the best the rest could muster among their best bets. The Nooch might be the way to go this weekend as he strives to make it five consecutive best bets.
THE EARLY OIL: FLEMINGTON
SATURDAY (AEST times)
DOOMBEN (9 races, start 11.15am), ROSEHILL GARDENS (9 races, 11.30am), FLEMINGTON (9 races, 11.40am), MORPHETTVILLE (8 races, 12.31pm), ASCOT (8 races, 2.14pm)
DOOMBEN
NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 21134
ANATOLA (Race 9, No. 2 — $2)
Looks to set up perfectly again for her, where she can lead or sit outside Don’tbabylon if they choose to go on with that mare. Takes a weight hike for the Gold Coast win, but still has enough ratings in the locker to cope. Around Doomben should really suit her, where she will give a good kick on the turn and have too much up her sleeve.
Value bet: ABBEY MARIE (Race 8, No. 13 — $15)
NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 21512
ANATOLA (Race 9, No. 2 — $2)
A darling with punters this campaign having won both starts as a heavily backed favourite.
Looks perfectly placed to complete a hat-trick of wins and be the ‘Get Out’ for punters across the nation.
Value bet: DIVINE QUALITY (Flemington, Race 6, No. 12 — $8)
MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
MORPHETTVILLE
BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser) Form: 91273
MISS ADMIRATION (Race 3, No. 1 — $2.70)
Really caught the eye with strong-finishing third in the Australasian Oaks a fortnight ago. Drawn poorly but she gets back in her races anyway. Step up to 2500m is ideal and expect her to be hitting the line hard.
Value bet: BLUE TYCOON (Race 8, No. 1 — $10)
LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser) Form: 62120
LITE’N IN MY VEINS (Race 5, No. 1 — $3.90)
Has been placed superbly to win his past three starts here in Adelaide.
Nicely weighted and drawn perfectly again to control the race. Will take beating.
Value bet: SANTA ANA LANE (Race 7, No. 7 — $14)
CHRIS VERNUCCIO (Herald Sun). Form: s1111
SAVAPINSKI (Race 4, No. 1 — $2.60)
Went too fast on a testing track last start and wasn’t run down until the final 50m. She can go a bit easier at 2000m and be hard to run down.
Value bet: GREY SHADOW (Flem Race 2, No. 4 — $4)
MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
ROSEHILL GARDENS
RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegragh) Form: 521x1
ROMAN SON (Race 5, No. 3 — $2)
He has put his rivals to the sword at his last two starts and should complete the hat-trick here. Only bad luck will beat him.
Value bet: EVER SO NATURAL (Race 6, No. 2 — $12)
MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 68129
ROMAN SON (Race 5, No. 3 — $2)
He’s ready to show why he’s a Brisbane Cup contender in what is his toughest test to date.
Value bet: STAR SENSATION (Race 2, No. 5 — $10)
STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegragh) Form: 52961
ROMAN SON (Race 5, No. 3 — $2)
Richard Freedman has this gelding in excellent form, putting together a winning double at his latest two runs. Bolted in at Rosehill on April 2, then was patiently ridden and repeated the dose with a victory at the Hawkesbury Metro meeting on April 28. Should be winning.
Value bet: SIR BACCHUS (Race 7, No. 4 — $10)
JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph) Form: 1415x
COUP DE MAIN (Race 4, No. 2 — $3.40)
Has looked super impressive in his two bush wins and this looks an obvious stepping stone for a stable who has had much Highway success. Tough nut to crack.
Value bet: PRINCESS POSH (Race 8, No. 3 — $7)
BRAD DAVIDSON (Sky Racing) Form: 35186
EPIDEMIC (Race 3, No. 5 — $4)
Her win was only narrow first-up but her late splits were easily the best of the day right from the 800m home and she is progressive.
Value bet: SATIRICAL MAGIC (Race 9, No. 13 — $7)
DARREN PRENDERGAST (SuperRacing). Form: 11218
ROMAN SON (Race 5, No. 3 — $2)
Talented four-year-old is racing great form this campaign, notching two wins and a second. Has a good turn of foot and will be hard to beat again.
Value bet: LIFE LESS ORDINARY (Race 8, No. 8 — $10)
MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
FLEMINGTON
MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: x3512
ICONOCLASM (Race 9, No. 1 — $2.30)
He seems to be getting better with every start. Step up to 1600m should suit even better and he can complete the hat-trick.
Value bet: SHERLOCK HOLMES (Race 7, No. 4 — $8)
GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun). Form: First starter
BOOM TIME (Race 5, No. 1 — $2.70)
Caulfield Cup winner who arguably should have won when resuming. Well suited over 2000m and may have class edge
Value bet: DIVINE QUALITY (Race 6, No. 12 — $8)
SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 8251x
LAND OF PLENTY (Race 8, No. 8 — $2.50)
Heavily backed last start and didn’t disappoint when successful at Flemington. Gate could be issue, but with decent passage looks a great chance.
Value bet: GREY SHADOW (Race 2, No. 4 — $4)
