HOT TIPS: WEEKEND BEST BETS

EAGLE FARM

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Frm: 11674

CANDIKA

Race 7, No. 16

Only wound up very late in the Sires and she was going as well as anything. Drawn a middle gate to help her settle midfield, she looks certain to run out the mile strongly and at $9, cannot see why she is twice the price of some other fancies.

TAB Fixed Odds: $8

BEN DORRIES (The Courier-Mail). Form: x0550

NIKITAS/SACRED ELIXIR

Race 7 Quinella

Not often I suggest a quinella as a value bet (especially in a big field). But I have two-year-olds Nikitas and Sacred Elixir clearly on top in the Group 1 JJ Atkins. Nikitas is back to form and this distance will suit him down to the ground, always being his target race. Sacred Elixir looks like something special and the big-striding Kiwi will thrive at Eagle Farm. Take the quinella with these two, and back them both as well

BRAD DAVIDSON (Gold Coast Bulletin). Form: 6x290

JAWS OF STEEL

Race 7, No. 8

No knock at all on Sacred Elixir and Candika but I just think Jaws Of Steel is well over the odds here. I loved the way he attacked the line at over 1400m off a freshen last start and he produced the quickest last 600m and 400m splits of the day at Flemington. Was luckless in the Champagne Stakes prior to that and he will eat up the mile at Eagle Farm. Eschiele is also good value in the Queensland Derby.

TAB Fixed Odds: $19

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 60226

JAWS OF STEEL

Race 7, No. 8

Underrated, looks a blow out chance in the JJ Atkins. Nothing has gone right for him the past two starts and he should run out the 1600m

TAB Fixed Odds $16

SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 67009

ARTLEE

Race 9, No. 16

Prepared to ignore last run when third but appeared to have race at his mercy. Gets in with lightest weight for some time. Has to be chance of upset with a good run.

TAB Fixed Odds: $26

RANDWICK

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph). Form: 6444x

PORTATORIO

Race 3, No. 5

Gave nothing else a chance when scoring by a huge margin at Taree last year and was way too good when he last raced at Grafton in January. Has a great fresh record and although this is a tough assignment, he deserves his chance and will look the winner at some stage of the race.

TAB Fixed Odds: $4.20

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 00x33

BOWIE’S BABE

Race 3, No. 11

Is a most underrated bush sprinter and resumes here off a short freshen-up for astute Tamworth mentor Leon Davies. Won’t mind the soft underlay conditions and at the odds, she is worth an each-way ticket.

TAB Fixed Odds: $17

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: 8290x

SWEET CHESTNUT

Race 1, No. 12

We have to hope that horses can swoop, or at very least make ground because my longshot will need it to be that way. This filly definitely has talent and she trialled enormous leading into this. Worth a shy at the stumps at the odds.

TAB Fixed Odds: $23

DARREN PRENDERGAST (SuperRacing). Form: 9547x

STAR CROSSED

Race 1, No. 4

Scored debut win at Scone in December before given a break. The speedy son of Starcraft has had two trials including an eye-catching 15-length romp at Gosford last month. Drawn well and will give plenty of cheek.

TAB Fixed Odds: $6

FLEMINGTON

MATT STEWART (Herald Sun). Form: 14183

ARALDO JUNIOR

Race 5 No. 8

Reckon I hopped aboard one run early last start when solid. Now ready.

TAB Fixed Odds: $15

DANNY RUSSELL (Herald Sun) Form: 13425

BULLPIT

Race 8, No. 6

Born to run 1000m at Flemington. Beaten less than a length by Supido this track and distance last month.

TAB Fixed Odds: $8

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun) Form: 763x3

UNGRATEFUL ELLEN

Race 5, No. 7

Took ground off a smart mare in Zanteca last start at Morphettville which reads well for this. $6 looks over the odds.

TAB Fixed Odds: $6

TAB Market Update: JJ Atkins

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 09351

CHASE THE HORIZON

Race 3, No. 2

Resumed from a spell with an eye-catching win at Ballarat and despite the step up in grade looks the one to beat at an attractive price.

TAB Fixed Odds: $7

MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS

MORPHETTVILLE

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 233x1

ZEPRISE JOURNEY

Race 2, No. 6

Form reads horrible on paper since a more than handy effort when fifth behind Go Dreaming in the Birthday Cup here back in February. Won three of his previous five starts and he was specked here at odds last week ($26 to $14) and is more than capable of turning it around here.

TAB Fixed Odds: $13
