THE Victoria Racing Club and Twitter have entered an agreement to live stream this year’s Melbourne Cup as the social media platform pushes further into the world of live sports broadcasting.
In the first live streaming deal Twitter has signed outside of the United States, the Melbourne Cup will be able to be watched anywhere in the world when it is raced on November 1.
The hour-long broadcast will commence at 2.30pm and will be produced for the VRC by the Seven Network, rights holder to the event in Australia.

Twitter Australia’s Jonathan Harley, said the broadcast would create a “one-screen experience at the centre of the action unlike any other.”
Nick Addison from the VRC said: “We are thrilled to enter into this partnership with Twitter to stream the Emirates Melbourne Cup to a worldwide audience, becoming the first professional sporting event in Australia to be live streamed on the social networking platform.
“By leveraging the power of Twitter’s enormous real-time platform for reaction, commentary, analysis, and more, this partnership will provide viewers the opportunity to watch Seven Network’s exceptional production and interact with the action on and off the track as it happens live on smartphones, tablets and computers.”
