Nathan Exelby (The Courier Mail)

Ipswich

BLITZED

This Ipswich race panned out for Robbie Fradd on Londehero, but deserves the accolade for being able to land a winning double (Amexed being the other) on horses that hadn’t won for a combined four years between them.

BACK

Little doubt the inside being off cost Sir Donald the race at Ipswich. If he could have railed, would have won clearly. Looks capable of winning his way through the grades.

Salmanazar easily took the step to Saturday class and with the leaders capitulating, was left a sitting shot late at Ippy. Will be better for it.

Elusive Catch worth following. With the soft tracks likely to stick around for a while, she should be well placed in coming week.

SACK

Serenade’s a bit of a tease. Races well, but rarely wins as was the case at Ipswich.

Dance Of Heroes had been OK in average Sydney races, but found out here and turned in a weak run to the line.

Lord Leofric was $13 into $9.50 at Rosehill, but he’s a shadow of the horse that went through his grades 12 months ago. Punters haven’t yet cottoned onto that.

THIS WEEK

Tuesday: Bathurst, Casino, Pakenham

Wednesday: Doomben, Cranbourne, Canterbury, Balaklava, Belmont

Thursday: Rockhampton, Newcastle, Bendigo, Pinjarra

Friday: Ipswich, Coffs Harbour, Canberra, Geelong

Saturday: Eagle Farm, Randwick, Flemington, Morphettville, Belmont, Toowoomba, Beaudesert, Rockhampton, Tamworth, Kembla Grange, Moe, Carnarvon, Darwin

Sunday: Gold Coast, Townsville, Murwillumbah, Coonamble, Pakenham, Warrnambool, Port Augusta, Kalgoorlie, Devonport

THE QUOTE

“He couldn’t quicken on the ground. It took away his turn of foot.”

— Michael Cahill on Eye Liner flop Trubia.

THE TALKING POINT

Maurus. The opposition weren’t topliners, but he put them away stylishly. The fact Damian Browne rates him higher than It’s Somewhat suggests he can measure up to better races. He showed that in the Doomben Cup and no reason David Vandyke can’t line up a really good race for him next season.

Shayne O’Cass (The Daily Telegraph)

Rosehill Gardens

BLIZTED

Hugh Bowman rode himself a treble and it could have been four had Olympic Academy not been touched out by Vassal in the 10-furlong race.

BLUNDERED

Disgraceful wasn’t the only popular horse, punter-wise, beaten on the day but we might have to give him a wide berth next time. He was ‘consistent without winning’ on Friday night, Saturday night? He’s borderline ‘money muncher’ to steal a phrase from the great man Ron Dufficy.

HOT

Deanne Panya has to be the best 3kg claimer in the country right now bar none. Another brilliant frontrunning ride on Foreign Prince — a horse totally vulnerable it seemed at 2000m — ah, but rated with the patience and skill of a Peter Cook or Jim Cassidy.

NOT

What’s this? A winner in the ‘Not’ category? Surely we jest. Nope, seriously Himalaya Dream is why we should all make a promise to ourselves never to bet ... LAST, LAST, FIRST. Come on people — I ‘ve seen him trial like Kingston Town one day then come and race like Ouroene! How do you follow him — he’s a Quaddie killer win or lose.

HORSES TO FOLLOW

Foxplay (on the up), Thurston (all too late again) and Thud, fair dinkum — name the margin, 1-len, 2-lens? That just wasn’t fair.

Michael Manley (Herald Sun)

Moonee Valley

BLITZED

18 year-old apprentice Ben Thompson continues to impress this time with a winning double scoring on Clememcy and Onpicalo.

BLUNDERED

Turnitaround’s winning streak came to an end but his trainer Matt Williams said it was simply a case of coming to an end of a preparation. Will have a spell and be brought back for the spring with the 1600m Seymour Cup and the 1800m race on Melbourne Cup day the aim.

Strykinglee looked a good chance to take her record to three from three but didn’t finish the race off.

HOT

Jake Bayliss made it five consecutive Saturday’s with a city winner scoring on Chiavari.

Dwayne Dunn and the Hawkes Team combined for a winning double with Firsthand and Longeron.

NOT

Dwayne Dunn with his 10-meeting suspension. Will only miss one city meeting which is this Saturday which gives Craig Williams a better chance to make in roads on Dunn’s four winners lead in the jockey’s premiership.

The jockeys in the second race who let Shockemohle lead at a snail’s crawl and then win.

The Moonee Valley track didn’t look ready for a return to racing.

HORSES TO FOLLOW

Artie Dee Two — Darren Weir has identified this two-year-old as a spring contender. Won like it on Saturday sitting wide with big weight and still winning.

Prince Of Brooklyn — Big run to come from a mile back on track playing to on-pacers when just failed to catch Firsthand.

Well Sighted — Came from well back in the same race for fourth.

Alamandin — Big effort to finish sixth coming from a clear last to finish sixth at his first Australian run and his first in two years behind Onpicalo.

Chance To Dance — Sat back and wide and ran on nicely for fifth behind Onpicalo.

IN THE BIN

Pilly’s Wish, Charlie Garcon.
