SYDNEY’S super mare Winx seems to have scared off the opposition ahead of the Group 1 $500,000 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday.
The Victoria Racing Club has extended nominations after the Turnbull attracted only 11 entries, most notably Winx and Melbourne’s best weight-for-age galloper, Humidor.
Winx has been installed early favourite at $1.18 with TAB Fixed Odds to win her 22nd race in succession — and her first at Flemington. Humidor is next at $5 then it is out to $17 and longer the rest of the field.

Trainer Chris Waller said Winx, partnered by regular race jockey Hugh Bowman, was impressive in a crucial track gallop with stablemate Japonisme at Flemington yesterday. The pair worked off from the 1200m and were timed to run the final 1000m in 1m 4s, and a closing 400m sectional of 23s.
“Winx steadily built momentum into to the work to ensure she knew what the long Flemington straight was all about and attacked the line well,’’ Waller said.
“Both Hugh and I couldn’t have been any happier with the work. It was a good workout which she recovered quickly from, (so) I am therefore happy with her fitness. “It is great to see her settle in so quickly and not take any harm from the travel.’’
Sydney’s final Group 1 race of the year, the $500,000 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday has attracted 15 early entries with Gloaming Stakes winner Ace High rated the $4.20 favourite.
EPIC BATTLE
THE Everest hopefuls Deploy and Redzel clash in a 1030m barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow morning. Both sprinters are in outstanding form with Deploy setting track records at his last two starts in the Show County Quality and Theo Marks Stakes while Redzel has been brilliant taking out the Concorde Stakes and The Shorts, the latter in track record time.

His two other top-rated selections finished second.
TOO GOOD
ENABLE has capped a memorable season with a scintillating display in Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly, giving jockey Frankie Dettori a record fifth win in Europe’s premier middle distance race. The John Gosden-trained filly lined up as the odds-on favourite after four consecutive victories at the top level in the Epsom Oaks, Irish Oaks, King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks and she extended that streak winning by more than two lengths. Order Of St George, part-owned by Lloyd Williams, ran fourth.
