The Early Oil: Herald Sun form analyst Michael Manley gives his extended preview of Friday’s Moonee Valley meeting

FORM analyst Michael Manley says punters should take into consideration that I Am A Star’s fourth run in last time she easily won the Sunline Stakes at this track and distance.

SKY Racing Update: 270917

GROUP 1-winning mare I Am A Star deserves another chance at Moonee Valley after her last-start defeat when she didn’t have a lot of luck at Flemington.

Leading form analyst Michael Manley says punters should take into consideration that her fourth run in last time she easily won the Sunline Stakes at this track and distance.

Michael says she should be ready to fire and has put her on top as his best bet.

He also recommends punters put a little away for Madeenaty.

Michael says the brilliant three-year-old filly tried hard when third behind Pariah in Sydney last start.

He says she should be better suited over the 955m trip and looks well weighted.

Race 1: Sporting Globe After The Last Plate (1200m) 6.30pm

KOBAYASHI (1) will find this easier than his recent assignments. He flew last start at Caulfield before tiring behind Merchant Navy. Hong Kong wonder jockey Joao Moreira takes the mount. MURAQEEB (4) is an above average colt and blinkers go on first time. Lost all of his momentum last start here when he went wide around the turn. James Cummings’ CORUSCATE (3) showed a lot of talent as a two-year-old with form against smart horses. EXPERIMENTATION (7) strolled in last start at Pakenham Synthetic. Tony McEvoy’s OVER EXPOSURE (9) was backed as if unbeatable at his debut at Balaklava and proved the money was spot on with an easy win.

SUGGESTED BET: KOBAYASHI THE WIN

Market movers: Kobayashi $5.50-$3.40 ($400 @ $5.50, $200 @ $4.80, $500 @ $4, $334 @ $4, $500 @ $3.60); Over Exposure $5.50-$4.60

Race 2: Strathmore Flowers Handicap (1200m) 7pm

MILES OF KRISHNAN (12) is an above average mare making her debut for Lindsay Park. She performed well in a recent jump-out at Flemington. SO YOU TOO (11) resumed with a second in Adelaide. Last campaign she finished third behind Sweet Sherry in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes in Adelaide. RUETTIGER (2) has been racing consistently against stronger fields. LABUAN STAR (8) is a consistent mare. WELL SPRUNG (3) hasn’t had much luck in recent starts and has the talent to win this.

Race 3: Scarborough Stakes (1200m) 7.30pm

HOUTZEN (1) wasn’t disgraced when she finished a short priced third in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes against top older sprinters. She was trapped wide throughout. Her regular jockey Jeff Lloyd will ride her and expect her to use her inside gate and lead. This is much easier against her own sex. MINTHA (9) finished off strongly powerfully for fifth behind FOX SWIFT (5) at Flemington over 1200m. SPLIT LIP (3) also finished off powerfully for second in that race. INVINCIBLE STAR (4) showed heaps of talent in her two starts and resumes here.

SUGGESTED BET: HOUTZEN THE WIN

Market movers: Houtzen $1.55-$1.60 ($2,000 @ $1.55); Invincible Star $13-$9.50-$10

Race 4: 55 Second Challenge Heat 1 (955m) 8pm

Speedy three-year-old filly MADEENATY (10) tried hard when close-up fourth behind Pariah in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes after finishing second-up first-up at Flemington behind Crown Witness. She’s taking on older horses but looks well placed. Sydney mare SUPER TOO (6) is a flying machine and from barrier one will take catching. Another Sydney sprinter SUPER MAXI (4) stretched Speedeor at Sandown last start. BALANCING ACT (12) showed great improvement last campaign and has had one start for a win here. PETITE’S REWARD (7) has a sound record at this track.

SUGGESTED BET: MADEENATY THE WIN

Market movers: Tykiato $34-$26 ($250 @ $26); Madeenaty $5.50-$4.80

Race 5: JRA Cup (2040m) 8.30pm

FOUNDATION (6) was a good thing beaten last start as he was held up for the last 300m when full of running when 1.7 length eighth behind Magnapal which followed a third also this track and distance when he tried to lead throughout. STAR EXHIBIT (4) was well backed to win the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes here last start but lost his rider at the start. They are using a blindfold on him tonight. TAVAGO (1) ran an excellent seventh in the Makybe Diva Stakes when he resumed from a spell. He won the Sky High Stakes second-up last preparation. Kiwi JON SNOW (2) has been more than solid in his two Australian starts when mid-field in Memsie and Makybe Diva Stakes and gets to his preferred trip. ECUADOR (3) is likely to lead.

SUGGESTED BET: FOUNDATION EACH-WAY

Market movers: Foundation $7-$5.50 ($250 e/w @ $7/$2.33, $1000 @ $6.50, $800 @ $6, $200 @ $5.50); Berisha $16-$13 ($400 @ $16, $510 @ $14)

Race 6: Zoustar Stocks Stakes (1600m) 9pm

I AM A STAR (7) carried a big weight and was held up in the straight when seventh behind Sword Of Light in the Let’s Elope Stakes. Fourth run in last campaign she strolled in with the Sunline Stakes carrying 59.5kgs. SMART AS YOU THINK (11) finished off well for fifth in the same race and is a winner at her only start at Moonee Valley. HELL OR HIGHWATER (1) made it a hat-trick of wins when she led throughout to win the Heatherlie Handicap last start at Caulfield. LIZZIE L’AMOUR (3) pulled up with atrial fibrillation after her Australian debut when seventh in Dato behind Bonneval. She’s a Group One winner in NZ. MONTOYA’S SECRET (8) should be ready to improve.

SUGGESTED BET: I AM A STAR THE WIN

Market movers: I Am A Star $4.60-$2.70-$3.10

Race 7: Moir Stakes (1000m) 9.30pm

Going to be crazy speed in this. MALAGUERRA (2) is a first-up specialist who might be able to gain a spot behind the leading group and charge home. He’s a Group One winner who trialled well recently at Cranbourne. RUSSIAN REVOLUTION (5) has a sensational record and he was impressive winning the McEwen Stakes this track and distance. Golden Slipper winner SHE WILL REIGN (13) resumes. She has a big weight advantage and should also be just off the leading division. SWEET SHERRY (12) is underrated and she’s drawn to get a good run. TERRAVISTA (1) flies first-up. HEATHERLY (11) and VIDDORA (10) next best.

SUGGESTED BET: MALAGUERRA EACH-WAY.

Market movers: Terravista $15-$13, Russian Revolution $3.20-$2.90-$3.30, She Will Reign $3.80-$4 ($500 @ $4, $200 @ $4, $500 e/w @ $3.90/$1.75 $258 @ $3.90, $1150 @ $3.70, $500 @ $3.80)

Race 8: Johnnie Walker Stutt Stakes (1600m) 10pm

WASSERGEIST (9) won with authority at Sandown Hillside after being unlucky at his first two starts. He’s up in grade but he looks to have the potential to win a Group 2 early in his career. Will also be ridden by Hugh Bowman. Stablemate SALSAMOR (7) is also promising. MASCULINO (4) made it two from two this campaign with an easy win here last start over 1509m. TOGA PICTA (6) didn’t fire last start at Flemington but is better than that. SHOWTIME (3) wasn’t disgraced behind Royal Symphony at Flemington last start. Tony McEvoy is confident AZAZEL (2) should be suited by 1600m.

SUGGESTED BET: WASSERGEIST EACH-WAY

Market movers: Showtime $2.80-$3.30, Masculino $4.40-$4
