The messy aftermath of punters across the country celebrating the Melbourne Cup in style

THE Melbourne Cup didn’t disappoint with wild scenes coming from punters after a day of partying. But it wasn’t just Melbourne where revellers let their hair down, with Sydneysiders also giving it a nudge.

Melbourne Cup 2018: Fashion fails on the field

THIS year’s Melbourne Cup was one of the wettest on record, but that didn’t stop punters from getting dressed up and heading to Flemington for a day of celebration.

While some revellers tried to escape the rain, others chucked a raincoat over their frock and made the most of the ‘race that stops the nation’.

One racegoer even wrapped garbage bags over his legs to protect his shoes from the wet, while the female holding his hand was left to walk through water in her shoes.

Back in Sydney, some revellers opted to enjoy the drier conditions at Sydney’s Royal Randwick racecourse, while others celebrated the day on boats in the Harbour.

Just like those attending the race in Melbourne, the aftermath of a boozy afternoon could be seen from revellers across the city.

And while some people headed home after the race, others stayed out celebrating well into the night.
