The young stars that could set you up for SuperCoach Racing success

Juvenile horses provide the best points-per-dollar value in SuperCoach Racing, so picking the right youngsters is vital for success. Chris Vernuccio runs the rule over the fillies and colts you need to beat your mates.

How To Play SuperCoach Racing

The early rounds of SuperCoach Racing belong to the colts and fillies with five Group 1s with fields restricted to three-year-olds all up for grabs.

And that is good news for SuperCoaches as the younger horses are far cheaper than their older equine equivalents in the game.

It’s a quality of field of youngsters available this year and Herald Sun racing expert Chris Vernuccio rates 10 of the best here:

BIVOUAC

Colt

SuperCoach price: $300,000

8 starts: 4-2-1. Prizemoney: $488,700

Trainer: James Cummings

Target: Golden Rose, Coolmore Stud Stakes

Made rapid improvement during his two-year-old season and began his three-year-old campaign with an explosive victory in the Group 3 Vain Stakes at Caulfield. Currently joint favourite for the Golden Rose after scoring a big win in the Group 2 Run To the Rose where he beat Yes Yes Yes and Exceedance by over two lengths.

LIBERTINI

Filly

SuperCoach price: $275,000

5 starts: 4-1-0. Prizemoney: $392,300

Trainer: Anthony Cummings

Target: Flight Stakes

She could be something special after smashing the clock in her comeback in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes and then following up on that win with victory in the Group 2 Furious Stakes. A short priced favourite for the Group 1 Flight Stakes (Round Two), Libertini is set to run in the Tea Rose Stakes the week before SuperCoach starts and would-be owners should watch that race closely. The big and powerful filly will have every race she contests against her own age and sex at her mercy but she wouldn’t look out of place in The Everest against the more-seasoned sprinters. Her only defeat was on debut to Bivouac.

CASTELVECCHIO

Colt

SuperCoach price: $275,000

6 starts: 3-0-2. Prizemoney: $1,614,750

Trainer: Richard Litt

Target: Golden Rose

Touted as the horse to beat in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes very early in his career and the colt delivered on those expectations. Although that win was 1600m, trainer Richard Litt’s preference right now is the 1400m Golden Rose with the son of Dundeel to help boost his stud value. Resumed after a spell finishing fourth in the Listed Dulcify Stakes at Rosehill on 14 September and is currently on the fifth line of betting for both the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas.

YES YES YES

Colt

SuperCoach price: $250,000

6 starts: 3-2-0. Prizemoney: $387,450

Trainer: Chris Waller

Target: Golden Rose

He found Bivouac too slick for him in the Run To The Rose first-up from a spell but will improve from that run when he lines up in a wide-open Golden Rose. Won the Group 2 Todman Stakes in the autumn. Coolmore Stud bought a stake in the colt and is a possible candidate for its vacant Everest slot.

EXCEEDANCE

Colt

SuperCoach price: $225,000

4 starts: 2-0-2. Prizemoney: $136,115

Trainer: Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes

Target: Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas

Exceedance put two lengths on Bivouac on a very wet track in the San Domenico Stakes on August 31 and the bookies promptly halved the quote they were offering on the Hawkes team colt to win the Golden Rose. Bivouac returned the favour at the next start when he beat Exceedance by just over two lengths on a dry track in the Run To The Rose. He wants more ground and he’s $75,000 less than Bivouac.

LOVING GABY

Filly

SuperCoach price: $225,000

5 starts: 1-2-0. Prizemoney: $580,750

Trainer: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace

Target: Thousand Guineas

After a stylish last-to-first debut win, her next four starts were all at Group 1 level, which included runner-up finishes in the Sires’ Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes. The expectation has always been she will be better as a three-year-old.

DALASAN

Colt

SuperCoach price: $175,000

5 starts: 4-1-0. Prizemoney: $303,595

Trainer: Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas

Target: Caulfield Guineas

The South Australian ran second in the Group 2 Sires Produce in March this year and then emerged as a serious Caulfield Guineas (Round 3) contender with a brilliant victory against older rivals at weight-for-age in the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Morphettville in August. Firmed to lead the Guineas market after winning the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington on 14 September.

PRINCE FAWAZ

Colt

SuperCoach price: $200,000

5 starts: 2-0-1. Prizemoney: $457,950

Trainer: Anthony Cummings

Target: Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas

Was thrown in the Group 1 deep end at just second start but everything fell into place when he won the Group 1 JJ Atkins Plate, a race has become a strong form reference for the spring in recent years, during the Brisbane winter beating Kubrick and Reloaded. Returned from a spell when finishing sixth of eight in the Group 2 Run To The Rose and an improved showing is expected over the longer trip in the Golden Rose.

FUNSTAR

Filly

SuperCoach price: $175,000

3 starts: 2-1-0. Prizemoney: $136,750

Trainer: Chris Waller

Target: Flight Stakes

Won similar races that Winx did to start her career. Although that’s where the similarities end with the champion mare, Chris Waller does have a big opinion of the filly. Ran second over 1300m when resuming earlier this month and should lap up 1600m.

FLIT

Filly

SuperCoach price: $150,000

4 starts: 1-2-1. Prizemoney: $299,440

Trainer: James Cummings

Target: Flight Stakes, Thousand Guineas

Her return in the Silver Shadow Stakes was overshadowed by Libertini’s dominant performance. She has scope to improve once she stretches out to 1400m and 1600m and is currently the second favourite in early betting for the Group 1 Flight Stakes (Round 2).
