Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Wednesday’s twilight card at Sandown.

BEST BET

IRISH BUTTERFLY (Race 3, No. 3 – $1.95)

He might be on his last chance with some punters but he was unlucky not to break through second-up at Sandown. He’ll be fitter and can bounce back with a win over the 1500m trip.

NEXT BEST

HOLSTER (Race 4, No. 5 – $4.60)

Holster has raced consistently this time in for the Amy and Ash Yargi stable at Mornington and he’s a good chance to notch a city win. He raced wide but wasn’t far away last time and can improve with a softer run on Wednesday.

KANSINO (Race 6, No. 6 – $3.80)

Finished well to beat the smart Intellective in a $125,000 race last start and finds herself in another winnable contest on Wednesday. Her 1600m record is terrific and she’ll be hard to beat again this time.

YULONG ISLAND (Race 7, No. 7 – $5.50)

Is getting better with racing as shown by his two wins from his past three starts. He did everything right in front before scoring a soft win at Geelong and can continue his development with a city win.

VALUE BET

JESTA DREAMA (Race 8, No. 12 – $8.50)

Is due for a win after two excellent efforts in Saturday grade at his past two runs. He’s back to midweek grade over his favourite 1400m distance and rates a great each-way chance in the last at Sandown.

THE JOCKEY

DAMIAN LANE
Rode a double at Caulfield last Saturday and has notched another couple of wins on the provincial circuit to continue his strong form this week. Lane has five rides at Sandown on Wednesday.
MEXICAN STAR (Race 1, No. 8 – $15), FRISSON (Race 2, No. 5 – $7.50), ULTIMATE EDITION (Race 5, No. 6 – $13), ARCTIC SHOCK (Race 6, No. 1 – $12), KENT STREET (Race 8, No. 5 – $7.50).

THE WEEK AHEAD

Pakenham’s night card will be the only Victorian racing on Thursday while a Sale day fixture will precede the Friday night meeting at The Valley. Flemington will be the focus of the Melbourne racing scene with Saturday’s Lightning Stakes meeting while Bendigo will hold the day’s provincial card. The famous Buchan Cup picnic meeting will also be on Saturday. Colac and Moe will hold Sunday’s meetings.
