Randwick races: Brad Davidson’s tips and extended preview

While 1200m is short of Ole Kirk’s best, the Hawkes Racing colt has class and conditions to snare another stakes win, according to Sky Racing form analyst Brad Davidson.

ROYAL RANDWICK

Track: Soft 5. Rail: True.

R1 (1pm): LONHRO PLATE (1000m)

OVERVIEW: Tricky race to kick-off the day. Nasdaq Dubai went straight to the front in a recent Rosehill trial and was quite strong at the end of the 896m trial to win by a couple of lengths in solid time. Conexy, Conglomerate (awkward draw) and Retrieval all have claims and there are likely to be other hopes as well.

BETTING ADVICE: Leaning to NASDAQ DUBAI.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: Nasdaq Dubai $3.50-$3.70-$3.60 ($250 x $400 e/w @ $3.70/$1.65), Testimonial $8-$6.50

R2 (1.35pm): TAB HIGHWAY HCP (1200m)

OVERVIEW: Hard to go past Another One and he is the horse on the up here. He was a strong winner over 1300m at this track last start and has trialled well since. He also gets the blinkers on for the first time. Not a great deal between the rest with Commando Hunt, Mnementh, Niccirose and Praline on the next line but he looks hard to beat here, Another One.

BETTING ADVICE: ANOTHER ONE to win.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: Another One $2.90-$2.50 ($550 @ $2.90, $1,000 @ $2.70, $500 @ $2.70, $300 @ $2.70, $300 @ $2.50)

R3 (2.10pm): HEINEKEN HCP (1000m)

OVERVIEW: Written Beauty picks herself here and she progressed a long way last prep. I don’t think she was at home down the Flemington straight and I think she was set alight a bit too late in the race but class got her home. She has trialled well and should be too good for these. Spaceboy looks next best, while Fanciful Dream can improve if we get a genuine wet track.

BETTING ADVICE: WRITTEN BEAUTY to win.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: Written Beauty $1.45-$1.35 ($2,000 @ $1.35)

R4 (2.45pm): RANVET HCP (1300m)

OVERVIEW: Another shortie here in April Rain and she is progressing the right way. She has posted two arrogant wins this prep and the step up to 1300m on a big track looks ideal. She is clearly the horse to beat. Madam Legend and Starla look the other two main hopes.

BETTING ADVICE: APRIL RAIN to win.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: April Rain $2.15-$1.95-$2 ($2,000 @ $2.15, $1,000 @ $2, $500 @ $2, $1,000 @ $1.95)

R5 (3.20pm): INGLIS MILLENIUM (1100m)

OVERVIEW: Profiteer looks terribly hard to beat off the debut win and his trial in Sydney since was outstanding. He should lead and the only negative I can find is if this expected strong headwind plays havoc with leaders. Ashema and Hi Hi Hi look the main dangers. Ashema ran second to Acrobat on debut and was OK when wide first-up in a two-year-old handicap here. Hi Hi Hi was outstanding first-up at Canterbury and just has to improve a touch off that to be right in this as well.

BETTING ADVICE: PROFITEER to win.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: Profiteer $1.85-$1.90-$1.75 ($2,200 @ $1.90, $1,150 @ $1.90, $2,000 @ $1.85, $1,500 @ $1.85, $500 @ $1.85 MULTIPLE TIMES, $500 @ $1.80 MULTIPLE TIMES)

R6 (3.55pm): ESKIMO PRINCE STAKES (1200m)

OVERVIEW: Looks a nice race for North Pacific and he is clearly the horse to beat here. He gets in so well under the conditions of this race and he gets a nice run on the map too. The only knock is he could have trialled better. Peltzer returns off some solid trials and he just wants a wet track here. Tommy Gold and On The Lead are both chances, while I’m against The Face and I think he is taking up too much of the market.

BETTING ADVICE: NORTH PACIFIC to win.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: North Pacific $3.10-$2.25-$2.30-$2.15 ($2,000 @ $3.10, $1,500 @ $2.90, $500 @ $2.80, $800 @ $2.50, $500 @ $2.40, $400 @ $2.50, $500 @ $2.40, $3,000 @ $2.30, $2,000 @ $2.15, $1,500 @ $2.15), Never Talk $23-$19

R7 (4.35pm): INGLIS SPRINT (1200m)

OVERVIEW: Hard to go past Ole Kirk. He is just so well-weighted here under the set weights scale. He claimed the Golden Rose-Caulfield Guineas double last prep and while the 1200m is short of his best, he should be very strong late here. Dame Giselle looks the danger on what she did last prep but she has drawn an awkward gate and takes on the boys here. The Bopper and Prime Star on the next line.

BETTING ADVICE: OLE KIRK to win.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: Ole Kirk $2.30-$2.40 ($1,500 @ $2.40, $571 @ $2.40), Malkovich $26-$17-$18, Japery $51-$31-$23, Rocketing By $26-$19-$21-$23 ($300 x $100 e/w @ $26/$4.80, $500 @ $19, $400 x $100 e/w @ $19/$4), Dame Giselle $3.60-$3.70-$3.80 ($500 @ $3.60 MULTIPLE TIMES)

R8 (5.15pm): DAVALI THOROUGHBREDS CUP (1600m)

OVERVIEW: Looks a race in two between All Time Legend and Mount Popa and both are progressive horses. I’ll lean the way of All Time Legend. He should land outside the leader here and prove hard enough to run down. He should have won last start and just wants a drying track. Mount Popa was the early mover when markets went up and we haven’t seen him since he toyed with a moderate benchmark field at this track back in June. Drawn well and should be strong late.

BETTING ADVICE: ALL TIME LEGEND from MOUNT POPA but not much between them.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: Mount Popa $6-$3.70-$3.80 ($400 @ $6 TWICE, $320 @ $5.50, $1,000 @ $5, $500 @ $4.60, $300 @ $4), All Time Legend $2-$2.15-$1.75 ($1,000 @ $2.15, $500 @ $2.10, $560 @ $1.80, $500 @ $1.80)

R9 (5.55pm): THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE MILE (1600m)

OVERVIEW: A couple of progressive types clash here in Blaze A Trail and Sky Lab and both are likely to have admirers here. I’m a little bit worried about barrier one at this time of the day but Blaze A Trail does look the horse to beat here. He was super off a slow tempo fresh and the mile should suit. Sky Lab was outstanding first-up at Wyong and the step up in trip should suit him as well. He gets in nice and light and is progressive. Derbari is the other one looking out for a mile and he will get a solid run on speed here.

BETTING ADVICE: Leaning towards BLAZE A TRAIL but SKY LAB and DERBARI go in the quaddie.

TAB MARKET MOVERS: Blaze A Trail $3.70-$3.80-$3.50 ($1,000 e/w @ $3.80/$1.75, $500 @ $3.80, $571 @ $3.70, $700 @ $3.60, $500 @ $3.60), St Covets Spirit $15-$16-$13-$14 ($300 e/w @ $16/$4.40), Sky Lab $11-$5 ($300 @ $11, $520 @ $9, $375 e/w @ $9/$2.90)
