WARWICK FARM
BEST BET
Race 4, No.5: NIFFLER
Unbeaten Niffler has finished strongly to win both her starts at Kembla back in April and Wyong when resuming late last month. She is stepping up to 1600m quickly second-up from a spell but gives the impression this trip will suit. Promising mare who can win again.
NEXT BEST
Race 2, No.5: KANAZAWA
Kanazawa is a superbly-bred three-year-old by champion sire Lonhro out of the stakes-winning mare Kanzan, herself the dam of classy Ranier and Katalin. Kanazawa makes his debut but has shown considerable potential at the trials characterised by his brilliant closing speed.
VALUE BET
Race 6, No.3: REBEL SHADOW
Rebel Shadow looked to be in plenty of trouble for most of the straight so his effort to get up and score on the line at Canterbury was very good. Promising type yet to miss and place in his four-start career and will be hard to beat again.
QUADDIE
Race 4: 1,4,5,8
Race 5: 1,3,4,8
Race 6: 2,3,7,8
Race 7: 2,3,8
TRAINER TO FOLLOW
The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou stable is in outstanding form with at least one winner in the last seven Sydney meetings. The trainers are relying on Just A Jedi (race 3) and Too Much Lippy (race 6) to keep their winning streak going.
JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
Hall of Fame jockey Hugh Bowman has six very good rides including Niffler (race 4), Black Queen (race 5) and Glittery (race 6).
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WARWICK FARM
RACE 1
Rise Of The Masses, bred and raced by Sir Owen Glenn, has shaped promisingly in two barrier trials, the most recent when he raced clear for a commanding win in soft 7 track conditions. He has the tactical speed to negate his awkward draw. His sire, Russian Revolution, and dam, Ruud Awakening, are both Group 1-winning sprinters and there is an expectation this colt will be hard to beat on debut. Shalailed went wide on the turn but held his ground when second in a Randwick trial and is advantaged by a good draw. California Deeply showed natural speed to lead throughout in his heat win and is one to watch. Okataina has finished behind Rise Of The Masses in two trials.
Bet: Rise Of The Masses to win
RACE 2
Kanazawa is a well-bred three-year-old who won a barrier trial very impressively at Hawkesbury back in August but didn’t appear again until trialling at the same track two weeks ag, finishing third under a tight hold. Promising type drawn wide but likely to be ridden conservatively early and expect him to be powering home. Hamaki is the danger. He’s resuming after showing potential in a two-start debut campaign, finishing second to subsequent Group 1 winner Never Been Kissed at his last outing at Hawkesbury. Resuming here off a stylish recent trial win and makes his own luck racing on speed. Barrichello has been placed in five of his six starts and is bursting to win a race. Lucky Sun is an improver while first starters Surround Step and Ever Bella have shown ability at the trials.
Bet: Box trifecta 1,4,5,6
RACE 3
Solar Apex has been racing in stronger grade over longer distances and he looks well placed here despite coming back from 2000m to 1600m. He’s a handy horse racing well and with Tom Sherry’s claim, he’s not badly weighted with 59.5kg. The one to beat. Atlantic King deserves another chance. He won well over the Randwick mile course then was trapped three-wide throughout and it was no surprise he dropped out from the turn when near last at Rosehill. Otyrar is a big watch. Former English galloper making his Australian debut but hasn’t trialled here. Momack struggled in the heavy conditions at Canterbury but can improve.
Bet: Solar Apex to win, watch betting moves for Otyrar
RACE 4
Unbeaten Niffler has won both her races at the provincials, each effort characterised by how strong she was through the line. She is getting out to 1600m quickly after resuming over 1350m at Wyong but being by Tavistock, she should appreciate this distance. There is a lot to like about her and Hugh Bowman is a significant booking. Savoir Faire got a long way back early and was never really in the race when resuming at Gosford but she ran on strongly to finish fifth without getting clear galloping room. Dynasties has been in a position to win both starts this campaign and stays under notice. Belle Espoir has led throughout to score successive provincial wins and carries weight well. Always On Show, My Demetra and Segrill are chances in a deep race.
Bet: Niffler to win, box trifecta 1,4,5,8
RACE 5
Deniliquin finished strongly win his maiden at Gosford over 1900m then was unlucky not to score again when he wove through the field to just miss at Newcastle over 2300m. By Cox Plate winner Adelaide and should have no issues at 2400m for the first time. Black Queen was chasing a hat-trick at the Canterbury night meeting but could not accelerate in the very heavy conditions and finished third. Racing well and should be in the finish again. Outlook defeated Deniliquin at Newcastle so she commands consideration. Master Shuhood hasn’t won in seven attempts at 2400m but with Reece Jones’ 3kg claim, he gets in very well at the weights.
Bet: Deniliquin each way, saver on Master Shuhood
RACE 6
Rebel Shadow showed admirable determination and an impressive burst of acceleration to win at Canterbury last start. He was held up for most of the straight but dived between runners and got up on the line. Emerging three-year-old who can win again. Too Much Lippy settled on speed, controlled the race and easily held at bay the smart Gin Martini to win her maiden at Wyong. She also looks a promising type. Consistent mare Sur La Mer flew home to just miss overhauling the unbeaten Just The Broom at Canterbury and she is a deserved favourite. Glittery won with authority when resuming and is another with definite claims.
Bet: Box trifecta 2,3,7,8
RACE 7
Quatenus is going to be hard to beat. She stormed clear of her rivals to win at Hawkesbury first-up over 1000m in a very fast 56.55s in what is proving a strong form race. Placed on heavy going earlier in her career and just needs to find cover early from a wide barrier as she has the acceleration to be in the finish. He’s Super Lucky was resuming after 17 months out and ran a blinder for third to boom young sprinter Dragonstone at Kembla Grange’s The Gong meeting last month. He will be improved by the run, he’s won second-up previously and excels over short courses. Osamu finally found winning form last preparation and has been to the trials twice to ready him for his return. Authentic Jewel won by a margin when resuming at Newcastle and it will pay to forget about her failure at Ballarat.
Bet: Quatenus to win, saver on He’s Super Lucky
